If you have verified that there is no jammed paper, then I would suggest taking a can of compressed air and blowing the doc feeder out as best you can. Often times dust or paper scraps and debris can become lodged in the paper path, frequently blocking a sensor, thus creating a jam (despite the lack of paper.) As well, you might try running a thick piece of card stock through the feeder, as this will act to dislodge any stuck paper bits.
