I have owned 2 phantoms over 5 years. Most likely the problem is with the hose. The Phantom's hose will invariably need repairs over time. The hose swivels break and leak causing the pressure to drop. Even one leak will cause the cleaner to slow substantially.

The pressure gauge that came with the cleaner is very helpful. It will tell you if it is a pressure issue or the cleaner itself. Check your hose swivels and joints to look for leaks. Next check the filter screens (one near wall and one in the back of the cleaner). Finally, look at the hose's connection to the wall. The culprit is likely one of the above hose related issues.

  • From time to time, your Hayward Phantom may stop functioning properly and require repairs. In many cases, the repairs are relatively simple and may be done at home. Complex repairs, however, may require a professional's assistance.
  • Check the Water Pressure
  • Hayward Phantom cleaners require adequate water pressure, or the units will stop moving or move in a sluggish manner. If your Hayward Phantom displays these symptoms, check to make sure that the water pressure is not too low. Verify that all of the filtration system's valves are open and providing water to the booster pump. Check the booster pump's valves as well, and make sure that the dedicated return line is fully open. The filter pump must be operating in order for the Hayward Phantom to receive adequate water pressure. The cleaner's in-line filter screen should also be checked to ensure that debris has not plugged the screen. This will also prevent adequate water pressure from reaching the Hayward Phantom.

  • Check That There Are No Problems With the Hose
  • The sweep hose that connects the Hayward Phantom cleaner to the pool's filtering system may seem like a simple part, but any damage to it may cause problems for the pool. In some cases, the sweep hose may simply be too long, so removing a section or two of the hose usually remedies the problem. The hose may also have holes in it or debris is clogged inside. In the case of a hole, remove the damaged section and replace it with a new piece. For clogs, take the hose apart and remove any debris. In the clog is particularly stubborn, the debris may need to be flushed out with a garden hose. Remember that any obstructions to the flow of the water will keep the cleaner from moving.

  • It is important to know that the pool cleaner operates mechanically, 7 days a week and in one of the harshest environments out there. Chlorine and acid and other chemicals in the pool will wear down parts in the cleaner that will need to be serviced and is always something that should be kept in mind as you monitor your pool cleaner. When you start seeing the first signs that it is not working as effectively, get it taken care of!

We look forward to your feedback and hope this helped!

How much money in gas will i spend in a 224 mile trip, at $2.29 a gallon?

Depends on miles per gallon of vehicle. Average mpg of say 15 mpg would take 15 gallons to travel 225 miles.(15x15=225). At $2.29 per gallon @15 gallons=$34.35. So figure out mpg of your vehicle and do the math.

I have good hose pressure but the head cleaner does not seem to move around the pool any more. I have checked for blockages etc> Could the head be worn out already? It is only 12 months old

The head on these pool cleaners should not be worn in only a year. It is probably another issue. Try this solution. Make sure that the diaphragm is not worn or damaged. This is most likely the problem if you have adequate flow, but the cleaner is not moving anymore. The diaphragm is easy and inexpensive to replace.

Zodiac G2 Cleaner not moving around pool. Suction is adequate, filter has been backwashed. Cleaner pulled to pieces and reassembled. Has small crack in diaphram. Unit is 6 months old and has problems the...

any damage to that diaphram will cause the cleaner to not work. If it is only 6 months old then it is under warranty. any pool store should be able to get you a new diaphram at no cost. bring your paperwork with you to show proof of purchase.

I have a Dolphin Orbit diagnostic pool cleaner approx 3 years old haven't used it for some months. Put it back in the pool and now it won't work any suggestions

It is either going to be that your impeller is blocked or your drive system has something stuck in it. Check your wheels, axles, etc. for obstructions. If it is not either one of these, it is going to be an issue with the electrical system and you are going to have to take it into a pro that specializes in robotic pool cleaners.
