Amana side by freezer fan frozen will not run

if the rear wall inside the freezer has ice build-up on it then the defrost isnt working,remove this panel and check evaporator coil if its iced up the evaporator fan cant blow the cold air thru this coil,defrost it with a hand held hair dryer,then check the heating element located below the evaporator coil for continuity then check the round defrost thermostat on the top of the evaporator coil,note,this part needs to be tested below 32degrees to test good above that temp it will show open or bad

Make sure drain hose is not clogged up. Check evaporator fan, (small fan in freezer compartment). it should come on after door is open a couple of minutes. Feel air vents in fridge side for a stream of cold air, if none or too weak, remove back cover (where fan is) and check for frozen evaporator coil. If evaporator is frozen, air can't circulate thru unit, keeping fridge side from cooling and freezer side below freezing point.

If this is the case, unplugg unit from power outlet, and use a heat gun or hair dryer to melt ice, make sure all vents are clear.

Once the evaporator coil is free of ice, dry freezer, replace back cover and plug unit back on. Check temp. settings, should be about 1/3 of the dial range. If necessary, make additional adjustments every 24 hrs.

check evaporator fan if working or u may have a leak , or check condsr fan motor :)

If the evaporator coils behind the back panel of the freezer are icing up because of auto defrost failure that will stop the circulation of cold air
check defrost heater, defrost thermostat. Is the evaporator fan in the freezer running.

Below the evaporator fan is the evaporator coils. Remove the back cover in the freezer to observe the frost pattern. Light frost everywhere(NORMAL) or a partial pattern of ice(LOW ON FREON) or nothing(LOW FREON OR COMPRESSOR PROBLEM).

check continuity thro the fan motor and check it rotates freely

It sounds like you found it. Change the defrost timer.

Sometimes the fan only runs when the door is closed. Try closing the door first if you don't hear it running then more than likely it's the fan. The fan comes on when the temp in the refer falls above 36 to 38 degrees. After the refer reaches temp then it cycles off. It should be running every time the compressor comes on.

You may have a bad evaporator fan.Or it is obstructed.The other thing may be that the evaporator coil is frozen.(Iced up)Which may be caused by a bad defrost switch.

first do you have any heat from the compressor ? ( back bottom of the fridge) is the evaporator fan running. let me know and I can help..

Volman, take a look in the freezer section and see if you have a heavy build-up of frost on the back panel. You want to take the evap cover off and see if the evaporator is frozen up. If so, your refer did not go into defrost and cannot move the air over to the refer side. If this is the case you will have to defrost that evaporator completely. On these Amanas the culprit is usually the bi-metal which sits on the evaporator. Look at it and see if it's buldged. The part number for the bi-metal is ro131661. If you defrost the evap your refer will start cooling again normally until it freezes over again. This will give you time to replace the bimetal....Catriver...post back.
