Under printer properties, make sure that you are connected to the correct USB port.
After rereading your troubleshooting, sounds very likely that the USB port on the formatter is bad.
Have you tried to use the network port?
Not sure how to do that. I did try the IEEE 1284.4 . . . port (DOT4_001) with no sucess

Doesn't the printer have a network port?
Connect your parallel cable to the printer and PC. Do your magic and add a printer.
Local printer connected to LPT1. See if that works.

Thanks for resonding, If this allow
thxs for response. I had taken several screen shots but see no way to attach them.
1. I changed to the (only) USB port and got the msg that it was sent; second message said there was and error (wish I could send the damn screen shots)
2. I put it back to the Local Port and got the original results i.e. sent OK, printed OK; still no printer activity
3. While waiting for a response, I had replaced the entire printer (USB) cable but that made no difference
4. It may be important to add, after deleting the printer then attempting to re-install it is not picked up by the PNP mechanism, even though the service is running; as is the spooler.
Not exactly sure how to do that; I did try the IEEE 1284.4 port with no success!
