My gps (Garmin 255) is not recognized by my computer. There is no system sotware. I tried the webupdater of Garmin but it doesn't work. Thanks

Hello,

Try using a different USB port it may not be getting enough power to the unit, also make sure that the unit is fully charged.

When I turned on my Garmin nuv 255W Car GPS Receiver it reminded me to update it because my software was over a year old. My question is how do I update if possible without incurring any cost? Andy
Hi soami696,

To update the software for your unit, free of charge, follow these instructions:

1. Go to http://www.garmin.com/products/webupdater, and download WebUpdater to your computer.
2. Connect the GPS unit to your computer using the Mini-USB cable.
3. Run WebUpdater and follow the on-screen instructions.

After confirming that you want to the update, WebUpdater will automatically download the update and install it on your device.

Reboot your GPS receiver, and you should have the latest updated software from Garmin.

This manual covers operation of several 200 series Garmin GPS Receivers, such as 205, 205W, 215, 215W, 255, 255W, 265, 265W, 275, and 285W, etc.

Can't see my garmin nuvi200 in my computer when I connect it with usb cable. GPS shows a pic that says it is connected.How can I solve this ? Thanks.
You must have a program called WEBUPDATER on YOUR computer for it to recognize your GPS
It's free from Garmin here:
Plus you'll get updated firmware too

REMEMBER: It takes hours to do a complete a map update.
Unless you bought the Lifetime maps you may have to pay for current maps.

To download the latest unit software visit Garmin website: www.garmin.com/webupdater
First you have to set up an account at Garmin using the serial number on your GPS. Once you do that you can download firmware update for free.
After installing WebUpdater once from the Garmin website, perform all future software updates from your computer. Simply connect your compatible Garmin device to your computer, then run WebUpdater from your computer's "Start Menu" by selecting "Start", "Programs", "Garmin", and finally "WebUpdater"
REMEMBER: It takes hours to do a complete a map update.
Unless you bought the Lifetime maps you may have to pay for current maps.
By the way, the correct Garmin approved power OR download cables are a must!!
