printers are cheap buy a new one or look in a dumpster where university students live and have been throwing out junk cuz they are done with school.

the waste ink absorber cannot be replaced mate. you have to buy new printer.the waste ink absorber is the sponge part where head cleans all its ink. its a common problem in cannon.

The waste ink tank is inside the printer. You cannot do anything about it except reset the ink level count.

How to reset error 5B00 for Canon MP170 (Ink Tank Full Error):

1 - power off.
2 - hold stop/reset ,hold ON/OFF
3 - release stop/reset, push stop/reset twice, quickly, then release ON/OFF
4 - wait untill LCD display shows "Canon Idle",then push stop/reset four times, quickly
5 - then push power twice, quickly
6 - power off and power on.

The POWER Lamp Flashes Orange Eight flashes: Waste ink tank almost full
The printer has a built-in waste ink tank for the ink used during print head cleaning. Eight flashes indicates that the waste ink tank is nearly full. Press the RESUME/CANCEL button to cancel the error so you can continue printing. Before the waste ink tank becomes completely full, contact a Canon service representative.

it won't stop until the ink absorbers are replaced and the error reset in canon diagnostics. A shop repair, around $100.00

Inkjet printers have a fibrous pad inside them that collects the waste ink from cleaning the print head. Over time, this pad fills up with ink and can no longer hold any more. When this occurs, the printer indicates a "waste ink tank full" error.

Replacing the waste ink absorption pads is something an authorized canon service facility can take care of for you. Once they are replaced, it'll be functional again.

I have had this problem. There is a counter in your printer that must be reset to move on. The ink tank may not be full, but the counter estimates it is full (and maybe it is an instruction to you to buy a new Canon printer), and to actually empty the ink tank would be an uneconomical task. An error has occurred in the printer. The number of flashes indicates the type of error, as outlined below. Check the cause and take the appropriate action.
Two flashes: Out of paper or paper feed error
Replace the paper correctly and press the RESUME/CANCEL button.
Three flashes: Paper jam
If paper has jammed in the printer, clear the jam, replace the paper in the printer correctly and press the RESUME/CANCEL button.

Turn the printer off and unplug the printer from the power supply. Plug the printer back in and turn the printer back on.
