Xbox 360 plays CDs n DVDs but wont play my games, plz help

Bought my 360 around the same time they were first released and it never gave me problems till a couple months back where it got the 3 red lights of Death. So i sent it in when i heard the repair was free regardless of having a warranty or not. The first day i received my 360 back i accidentally dropped it and now it wont load games but will load CDs n DVDs. it gives a ''Unplayable disk'' message instead. I've tried opening it and cleaning the lens but that didnt work. Someone please help me.

Thanks in advance

Try calling microsoft again...and if no luck...then you might have to find a replacement cd drive...you can probably get one off of ebay.

If you do not have a mode chip it will not play either of them. Google mods for xbox 360.

My xbox plays cds/movies but not games. what do i do?

this is a problem the microsoft has been working on ... remove any disc from the tray> unplug it from all power the plug it back in> open the disc tray .. leave it open for a little while like 10-15 seconds .. then put the game in and it should work .. if it does not however you have one of the defected disc trays and you'll need to get it repaired by microsoft .. i know its not what you want to hear but hey at least they will fix it free of charge =]

Played too many dvds on the xbox, now it says play dvd notplaygam

best thing to do is send it back in to microsoft, if you open the xbox 360 case you will void the warranty, and they wont bother helping you. If you have already voided the warranty, you can find xbox 360 dvd drives on ebay or craigslist for around 30$ USD. Only the drive alone, not a whole xbox

Xbox 360 wont play the games but will play cds and dvds !!!!

Mocrosoft only entended the warranty on the "ring of death" issue which was hardware related to overheating.  They did not extend the warranty to any other issues.  DVD/CD emulators and the games emulators are handled by different software.
You can try a factory reset of the console...

Before trying this, it's highly recommend that you remove all hard drive and memory cards. Once you've removed all hard drives and memory cards, navigate to the systems tab in the main menu and select the “Initial Setup” option. Once you select the option, it will ask you if want to run the initial setup that occurred when you first started your console. Say yes and it will do its thing. When it asks for a memory card/hard drive, just decline and it should be done. You should see the default dashboard screen as confirmation that it did, in fact, rerun initial setup.

Resetting to factory defaults / resetting parental locks
This might work only with older versions of Xbox 360 dashboard.

Press the following key combination

Left Trigger, Right Trigger, X, Y, Left Bumper, Right Bumper, Up, Left Bumper, Left Bumper, X

This should give you a dialogue asking whether or not you want to reset your system to factory default settings.

If none of this works contact Microsoft and see if the console is still under warranty.  If not they will repair it for usually 99.00
