When i try to use my new kenko vari 8000s lens on my nikon D60 the camera tells me that the lens is not attached and won't let me take a picture. the lens is connected correctley is there a setting on the camera i should be looking for

That's odd that Shutterbug camera shop couldn't tell you everything you needed to know about that camera. I looked it up in a PDF manual because the new "small frame" cameras require different lenses as is the case here Autofocus with this camera is only supported by AF-S and AF-I lenses the lens is equipped with the autofocus motor other types of lenses will not autofocus.

The "kit" lens for this camera is the AF-S DX Zoom Nikkor 18-55 F3.5/5.6G VR.

Now if Shutterbug camera shop mounted an AF-S lens and the camera didn't autofocus then they are right in saying it's broke. I just find it strange they couldn't tell you that straight up. You need to install an AF-S lens and try it, again they may have put the wrong type on it and of course it won't work.

I take it that you don't have the camera manual?

If not go into Google search Type in Nikon D60 PDF manual and click search fifth one down on the first page is what you need click on it and download your "new" manual

See if that helps, personally I think you just need the correct lens.

clean the connection surface using pencil eraser heads. on both lenses and camera.

That is a problem that has to do with the Flash...make sure your flash settings are not turned on. If the flash can't find an image...it rotates and usually never finds the image. It's reading in a Flash mode.

turn the dial to P mode and do flash photography this should solve it.

Did you try removing the lens and cleaning the lens contacts on the camera body with alcohol?

for the close up photo u have to use micro or close lens set

If it's an AF teleconverter you will be able to use it and get proper exposure from the camera, but it will not autofocus with the D60. The D60 requires AF-S lenses and teleconverters for autofocus.

Yes the new nikon D60 needs lens with a built in a/f motor. Your lens will go on and work but you will
