The sound is great, but the picture has gone to gray with horizontal white lines across the screen. It is 20 years old, and probably not worth fixing, but i will ask anyway, just in case it is a simple fix.

It sounds like a video driver transistor in the CRT (picture tube) circuit has shorted out causing excessive video. If this is the problem the total repair cost should be less than $100.

TV had moisture get in. TV status- Turns on fine, sound is fine, but no picture, just a white line horizontal across middle of screen

Field scan drive has gone, This requires your local repair shop.
Give them a call first and describe the problem.

Moisture causes problems with the circuit board long after it has dried out.
There may be other problems only evident when the picture is restored.

Best weigh up the cost of a repair V a new TV( with 5 year guarantee - advised)

My Sony trinitron tube Tv 36" seems to be going (its 10 years old

no ....the tube will end up after 20 yrs in 10 yr old sony...
it is worth if u fix it. randomly going black means...horizontal driver trans former is the problem..or any loose contact with the 110 volt supply to that transformer,,or any loose contact with line o/p transformer.. (horizontal driver transformer may be gone
then tv behaves like this) if any other parts gone tv wont come back.... there may be a loose contact call a service pro..

Our toshiba is20 some years old. the picture is beautiful but it will flicker and lose the picture down to just a line across the screen. its like the horizontal or vertical is going on it. somtimes it...

Since its about 20 years old, it's probably suffering from broken solder joints. Resolder the vertical IC circuit. If that doesn't do it, replace the IC and whatever caps are bad. I just hope you can find the IC or even a sub for it.

White line

This is cauced by a collaspe of the vertical output circuit. Normally a relatively easy/quick fix by a skilled repair tech. If you have a nice quality set that is less than 7 years old, it might be worth fixing, otherwise, you might want to consider getting a new one.

Give a call to a local service shop and tell them what TV you have and the problem and see what they provide for an estimate to repair, it might be worth doing and it might make your decision easier to go buy a new one.

Proscan PS27123 TV Problem

just to be sure, is it vertical or horizontal? Anyway, if it is vertical, it could point out to the vertical Ic section or some loose contacts along the lines. If it is horizontal, it could be a filter capacitor along the horizontal Circuitry. Mark the high voltage capacitors along the high voltage sections.

Problem with tv

Could be a horizontal output fault, faulty power supply, a simple dry solder joint or HVT. If you can hear arcing or smell an ozone odour, it will be the HVT which may cost a bit.

Without knowing the actual cause, it's impossible to say how much it would cost to fix it.... could be anywhere from $50 to $250 etc

Best to have it checked by a technician and get a quote to repair... then decide if you think it's worth it.

Toshiba is generally a reliable brand, so if you were happy with the picture quality before the fault occurred, it's probably worth repairing.

Cheers
