Hello, you can recover the pictures directly from your camera without needing cables if you have a card reader.

If you do have a card reader, then:

  1. Open your camera's memory slot
  2. Remove memory card
  3. Insert memory card in your PC or laptop's memory card reader.
  4. The card will then appear on My PC exactly like any pendrive.
  5. After you're done copying photos, click over the system tray's "Safely remove Hardware" icon, and select the memory card.
  6. Wait until Windows prompts you that it's safe to remove the hardware.
  7. Put the memory card back on the camera.
Also, from here you can get the drivers for your camera

And, from here, you can order a new CD from Sony, but they will charge you for it.

Sony DSC-W310 CD-Rom lost

You may download Sony software from here. Bear in mind that you don't need Sony software in order to use your camera.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program such as Picasa.

When I switch on the Cybershot Camera, I get message "Error when formating" and tried to format via menu but i do not want to loose my pictures, so I canceled this option. What can I do to fix...

Hi peter_phasha ,

If you need to format your cybershot camera without losing your pictures , please follow the below steps :-

  • Make sure that you copy all the pictures from your camera to your hard disk , so that in case of an accidental format your data is saved.
  • To copy images from your camera to your computer or hard disk all you need to do is connect the camera using the cable which is supplied along with it , to your computer , and then install the software that came along with it, usually in a CD.
  • When you install the software you would find a storage drive is being reflected in my computer in case you are using windows xp , this will have all the pictures that you have taken from your camera.
  • Select the folders of the pictures of the specific pictures you want to copy and then select copy option from the edit menu , or press CTRL + C when the images or folder has been selected.
  • Now you need to paste these images on your hard disk , so you can do this by just creating a new folder on your desktop and then opening it , and pressing CTRL + V option so that the files get copied to your desktop , which is stored in your hard disk.
Note :- It's always better to copy your important images/fies to a seperate partition , instead of copying them to your root drive in which the operating system has been installed.
This could save your data from being deleted accidentally in case you format your root drive for reinstallting the operating system or the partition is lost , or corrupted.

Yes, you need to have memory stick because camera has limited internal memory that can store few pictures only.
Put new memory card, format it through camera Menu and copy internal memory pictures to memory stick, take our memory card from camera and delete internal memory pictures either one by one or format internal memory through camera Menu.
Thanks.
