I can no longer get sound through the speakers on my Sharp Aquos LC-37D6U TV. It worked fine yesterday morning and suddenly today, no sound at all. I followed the troubleshooting steps in the manual as well as checked the connection of the audio cables. Nothing worked... help!!

Have you tried the reset buttons on the back of the TV?
It should be right below your Cable IN port.
If that doesn't work, you may have to take it into a repair shop for the main unit board to be replaced. The part # is KD352
It's $99.59 at Shopjimmy.com
So, don't let the repairman rip you off.
Your Aquos does not have a separate Audio board, audio circuits are mainly on main pcb. If the guy was able to fix the problem by hooking a surround to the audio out, that means that is a problem with speakers contacts or with one of the outputs. Borrow a surround or use an amplified speakers set and check if you can fix it with this trick. To do a real fix, a technician must open the tv, and test all audio connection, and onboard connection to audio outputs to see what is wrong. If TV is going to work with a surround you will probably get a far better audio quality than the one you get now from TV speakers.
Please be aware that this a big problem on this unit. The insulator material used by sharp to between the IC's on the AV board both on top of the boards and underneath the the AV pcb is failing. This insulator is mounted to the IC and under the metal heat sinc. Remove the back and pull the AV Board out of the unit. Use zylene or alcohol and clean all of the grey insulator from between the pins on the ic and order the replacement insulators from Sharp. Most times this will correct the no sound problem. Sometimes this has also damaged the AV pcb and it will have to be replaced. The parts that should be replaced come in a kit with sharp part # PSPKIT663WHZZ. If the kit is not available the 2 parts needed are PSPAZA663WJKZ AND PRDARA216WJFW.
I'll tell you but it's not easy to do it. The heat sink radiator for the audio amplifier IC is touching the circuit board. You have to remove it and to replace the sillicon. The radiator is situated on the back of the AV board. You got to remove all boards to get this one.
Good luck.
