I have the exact same problem

  • MattNav Jan 09, 2011

This is almost certainly caused by air locks.
I had the misfortune of having to resolve a friends C8180 failing to print Light Magenta and Magenta. No error codes were coming up and other than failing to print he 2 colours it worked fine. I managed to fix the problem by purging the lines -- here's how...
    1. Remove the right hand panel (about 3 screws) then on the top prise the grey clip and drop the right hand panel down and off.
    2. Repeat for the left hand panel.
    3. On the right release the 2 ribbon cables and wired connections for the scanner.
    4. Release the scanner bed by pressing the black hinges and pulling the scanner body away taking care to ease the cables out.
    5. Remove the top plastic cover of the print bed. You can now see all the print carriage and ink line assemblies.
    6. On the right on top of the print head assembly there's a small black cover, remove this too so that you can see the ink heads.

Now on the left you'll see the priming pump - rotate this manually by hand and watch the ink flow in the clear pipework behind the pump and on the now exposed print head. keep going and try and drive as much air through *** possible.

Now over on the right you'll see by the exposed ink heads another pump arrangement, this is driven by a geared cam on the left of the print head assembly. Manaually rock this up and down to work the small diaphragm pumps on the print head itself. You should see the ink heads fill up with ink and any air bubbles should hopefully be forced out.

Now put it all back together and carry out all the test prints etc. My first test print had very faint marks where the magenta colours should be. another 20 pages and print head cleans on and the colour blocks are perfect.

I think it worked because manually driving the pumps added more pressure to the ink system than would normally be present, thus forcing the air over to the print head, then manually pumping the print head diaphragms clears the air down and out of the print head assembly and hopefuly flushing any dried up ink as it goes.

    Regards Matt Driver (MattNav)

I did this and managed evrything according to your instructions, however I couldn't manage to get every little bubble out of the printheads, even the ones that worked ok. So I assume that both the magenta heads are blocked. Is there a way of getting solvent to the printheads to clear the magenta jets?

Fault finding

Magenta Print-head may be blocked.

Depending on the model of machine.
Either on the Menu on the printer find Ink Management or press the Ink Management button.
Print a Test Page
If no Magenta Dots showing then proceed to Cleaning and Clean the print-heads through the proceedures given on the machine.
Print another test page. If Magenta Dots are fine then cleaning done. if not then try cleaning again.
If still not fine then the machine will need to be cleaned professionally which will cost a reasonable amount. Most service fees are more that it is to replace the printer.

I just replaced both ink cartridges in my esp3 printer. But when I print, the page comes out blank

You need a new Print Head:
Clean the printhead, then print a test page.
  1. On the control panel, press and hold Cancel + Copy/Resume simultaneously until the On/Off light flashes. The On/Off light continues to flash during the cleaning procedure.
  2. When the On/Off light glows steady, press and hold Quantity + Cancel simultaneously until the On/Off light flashes, then wait for the test page to print.
  3. Review the printed test page and verify that:
    • the left color blocks are gray, cyan, and black.
    • the right color blocks are magenta, yellow, and black.
    • each block is completely filled with color.
    • Is the test page blank?
  4. 1-800-421-6699,Call Kodak to Report Code BP03

If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it and give a testimonial for my response.

Thanks, Joe

I am having a problem printing with my HP printer

you wasted your time using cleaning program and heaps of ink...

follow this procedure:

1. remove all ink cartridges from the printer
2. check if ink is soluble in water, isopropyl alcohol or methylated spirit (this which do not create lumps or precipitations is correct solvent)
3. put one drop of solvent in th centre of aspiration hole on receptable
4. if solvent is absorbed through input, that meant problem is not with printer but with cartridges.
5. check printer cartridge by stamping them with tissue if they "produce" any ink on the outlet,
6. put one drop of solvent on cartridge outlet and insert them in correct bases
7. print test page, print should be rather weak as solvent will go through the nozzles
8. print test page from computer
9.create "strip page" of each colour used, separate by no colour (white) start with yellow strip, then white, light cyan, white, cyan, white, light magenta, white, magenta, white, black - this strip pattern will force all cartridge to operate on they max delivery.

if there is no result, service by technician will be in place...

all ink based printers need to print at least one page per week... ink will dry pretty fast, especially in dry or hot condition.

I have a HP Photosmart C5180 printer. It is not printing purple-instead what comes out is blue. I have done a print test report and it showed the Light magenta and magenta with missing bars and streaks. I...

If your color improved slightly when running the printhead option then doing more should help get better results. Sometime the printheads get really dirty/clogged and running the cleaning option more then once is needed.

If you get a slight line running across the page (from left to right) usually the indicates dust build up on the printhead or ink carriage. The dust acts as a paint brush being dragged across your paper as the carriage moves across the page during printing. You can clean the bottom of the carriage with a Q-tip or purchase some cleaning paper for your printer.

Phaser 8560 magenta ink not transfering to paper

Hi jbasset285: Your printhead may be bad do to third party ink.
Try these steps first.
Diagnosing Print-Quality Problems
The Troubleshooting Print-Quality Page provides a good overview of the most
common print quality problems. To print the Troubleshooting Print-Quality Page,
follow these steps:
1. From the Control Panel, scroll to Troubleshooting, then press OK.
2. Scroll to Print Quality Problems, then press OK.
3. Scroll to Troubleshooting Print Quality Page, then press OK.
The Troubleshooting Print Quality Page includes instructions for printing the
Eliminate Light Stripes test print. These instructions are also provided on the next
page of this manual. The Eliminate Light Stripes test print indicates individual weak
or missing jets or an obstruction in the imaging path that affects a vertical band down
the entire page. Also, you may see color variation from jet to jet on the Eliminate
Light Stripes test print. Some variation is normal, occasionally occurs, and usually
self-corrects within a few printed pages. If a print-quality problem is not resolved
with the information provided in the Diagnosing Print-Quality

My printer doesint print magenta on test page

Did you use third party ink? Insert a genuine (original) brother ink cart and do the cleaning twice. there should be magenta again. If there is no magenta after that, this could be either because of air in the system (thats why you should do the cleaning twice!) or the nozzels are clogged (and cant be cleaned anymore).
