My top loader didn't drain and it make an extremely loud almost grinding type of sound. i emptied the washer and lifted to see if something was caught underneath. when i lifted to washer i found a puddle of what looked and smelled like grease. my question is i am not sure if it is the motor ( though even with the grinding noise the water did seem to drain. i emptied the washer using a wet vac.) or if it the gear case?

Hi well if there is grease then this is a big problem heres another way of checking lift up the bottom of the machine and tilt it back do you see grease or oil on the inside walls of the machine this sounds like a transmission that is going bad the part itself can be from 96-180 dollars for a new transmission for a technician t come out and repair it your looking in the area of around 300 or higher If you have any further questions please message me back and please remember to rank how this opinion helped in your appliance situation Thanks again

My washer just came to the end of the wash cycle and started making a loud grinding noise when it is time to drain. It won't drain.

from your description , there is something interfering with the impeller in the water pump
could be button, coin , hair clip, bra wire that has damaged the impeller blades
Rather than mess around trying to repair I would just get a new unit as the same time and difficulty is for both operations

Flashing LD on panel and beeping cabrio top loader washing machine

Ld Long drain Clogged/slow drain/pump

"LD" stands for "long drain," meaning it took an excessively long time for water to drain out of the washer. Common causes for this are kinked drain hose or clothing, like panties or socks, caught in the pump suction hose. Why, I've even heard of bra wires coming loose and getting stuck in that hose, collecting all sorts of gookus and pinching off the flow of water to the pump. Can you imagine? Yea verily, as surely as the Sacred Suds doth eternally pass my lips, the "LD" error code springs forth from such anomalies.

Hope helps.

I have a kenmore elite oasis ht top loader that won't drain. When it reaches that part of the cycle there is a grinding noise and the tub doesn't empty. The grinding sounds similar to a fish tank filter...

sounds like you have something in the pump if you have kids it could be a small sock. yes you can fix it yourself first unplug it!!!! you should be able to remove theback cover then you will see the pump there will be 2 black hoses going into it looks like a donut if you pull these hoses offf there will be alot of water so get ready. then look in the pump alot of time ladies pantyhose get in there . if it's not the pump make sure there is not a kink in the hose going out. good luck be careful

Loud and Grinding during spin cycle

More often than not, something get sucked down into the pump. The pump is located in the lower left of the unit (typically) and can be accessed by removing the front panel. You may need to lift the top section to release the front panel. An example - I recently repaired a washer that had a bobby pin lodged in the fins of the pump and prevented it from spinning so that it couldn't drain. I removed the pin and re-assembled the machine and it has worked perfectly.

Maytag washer makes loud grinding noise during the spin cycle

if it's making a noise then either your drain pump bearing is going out or your thrust bearing is going out (assuming the noise happens in both spin and wash). Tip the washer backwards so that you can get underneath of it. Take the belt off and spin the pump pulley on the right side. This should spin effortlessly.

The middle pulley is the trustbearing pulley. Spin this--- one direction it should have a little bit of resistance--- the other should have more resistance

Kenmore Elite Oasis 110.2706 Top Loader Grinding Noise

If you remove the back panel, there are two pumps towards ethier side at the botom of the tub. If you remove the back hoses (have some towels ready) You may find something in one of the two pumps.

Water does not drain, strange noise while in spin cycle

sounds like something is stuck in your drain system. Most likely just in front or even in the pump
