I have a 32SC260 Sharp Standard Definition TV. It has a great picture when playing a DVD and on a couple of channels, but other channels are somewhat static and have a faint thick vertical that constantly travels from left to right on the monitor. Is this something wrong with the TV or does it have to do with my cable connection?

They are not the same so your high def screen is made to display the not as tall but wider high def picture. In order to fill the screen with the taller and not as wide 4:3 aspect ratio std def picture you must tell the TV to stretch the picture or otherwise fill the screen.The TV will have controls you can exercise for this purpose and you can set it up to always show std def in a particular manner. The alternative, if you want the standard Def picture to look true to form, is to view standard def in Letter Box form. It's appearance will then include black panels on the sides of the picture. So the problem is not with the TV but in accepting older format pictures playing on newer format displays (TVs.)

When properly connected to a High Definition display or TV, Blu-Ray Disks (BD) should play crystal clearly. Inserting an old "non-Blu-Ray" disk (or the original "DVD") in the Blu-Ray player will display a comparatively "fuzzy" picture. This is the difference between High Definition and Standard Definition. A "BD player" can not "upgrade" the picture quality on DVDs to that of a BD or High Definition picture.

Rent, purchase or choose Blu-Ray Disks (BD) whenever a choice is offered to view the High Definition version of a movie or video. Selecting the DVD version will provide the lower quality or Standard Definition version of the same movie or video.

Check the covers or disk itself to determine if the movie or video is in DVD or BD format. That will tell you what you can expect for picture quality.

You would need a High Definition cable package. I for instance have Comcast cable with the premium package and High Definition cable box. Also as far as watching DVD's and getting the best picture would be an HDMI cable from player to set. Hope it helps!

Yellow is video and red&white audio ,so when you hook up dvd does picture preview of dvd come on?You may have to switch to aux for dvd or different channel try checking each channel .

take it back to where u bought it and ask for another tv

on you tv must be a button "video/tv",you have to push this many times to find front, back or video1 or video2 (depent were you plug the dvd)and there is were supost to work. no on channel 3 or 4

The Magnavox 27MS343S is a standard analog 27" TV. It is not high definition and therefore cannot generate a posterized or pixelated picture. I will bet you are using a digital cable box or satellite reveiver and the problem is in that box, not the TV. Hook up a regular VCR to the TV, set the TV to channel 3, put in a good pre-recorded tape and hit PLAY. If the tape plays nice and clear on the TV, the problem is in your digital box.
