Hi, Just replaced the drive belt on a Husqvarna CTH180XP rear discharge 42" deck ride on mower, due to the belt becoming worn. Replaced exactly as the way it was taken off with belt all pulleys. The belt seems to be loose. I have not driven the mower as I broke the tie rod at the same time so am waiting for it to come. Will the belt become tighten when I drive the mower in gear? all help appreciated Sue

Hello,
My name is Dane and I am going to help you solve your problem.
I looked up your mower and I believe you should be using drive belt# 5321701-40. That is a 112" belt. Here is a link to the parts manual and a drawing of the belt routing. As long as that is the belt you have, and replaced it correctly it should be fine. You are correct, when you put the mower in gear, the pulley system will put more tension on it.

Well, I hope I've helped. If you found this information useful, please leave me some THUMBS UP if you think I'm deserving! :-) Thank you! Dane

Replace mower deck belt on Husqvarna R120S

Hi Diana-
I found this youtube video on replacing the belt and removing the deck on a Husqvarna riding mower.
https://www.husqvarna.com/ca-en/support/manuals-downloads/

I also found this link for your Husqvarna R120S owners manual (OM) which shows you how the drive belt is suppose to be placed on the mower deck.

Hope this helps.

Mtd 42" riding mower rear drive belt keeps popping off pulley

Hi, check the idler pulley arm and return spring on that belt. Its most likely not pivoting freely allowing the belt to loosen when you operate the clutch, regards Phil.

My Motion Drive Belt slipped of it's pulley on a Husqvarna Riding Mower Model 917-289570. Do I have to remove the rear tire to put the belt back on?

i had a 2148. you remove the mower deck as the first step. feed the belt over the pulley on top the transmission, then put it over the engine pulley. then have someone push the clutch pedal in so the tensioner pulley moves, put the belt in the guide pulley and on the tensioner. release the clutch put the deck back on and you are good to go. notice there are little keepers welded to the frame for the front, engine, pulley and it is easy to mistakenly put the belt over them instead of under them.

a general rule is that a pulley shaped like a Vee takes the V of the belt whilst a pulley which is flat takes the flat back of the belt. if you bear that in mind you will not have a problem putting belts back on. also there is a little decal on top the deck showing how the deck belt and deck drive belt go.

Husqvarna CTH180XP rideon lawn mower 42" rear

Hi Sue and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly. You have been quite lucky to get 7 years out of your battery. Given the age of the battery that is currently installed this is most likely your problem. You have voltage but very little amperage due to thinned out battery plates.... (
Let me know how it goes.

Thanks for choosing FixYa,

check the belt as it bound, if you do not think so then take it off(the belt) and engage the PTO if it does not die then it is: the belt, pulley, or blades are/is the reason why it is stalling Tim

Need to replace drive belt.Never replaced. 42' Craftsman riding lawn mower. How difficult is this. How do you access rear drive pully

Take a look at how the belt is installed. Then you will have to remove the mower deck and belt from the pulley on the engine. There is probably something by the engine pulley that you will have to remove so the belt will come off. It might be a shoulder bold or a rod with a bolt holding it on. Same with the rear pulley. Then you just have to put the belt on one pulley and watch your fingers so you don't pinch them and turn the other pulley and the belt should go on. reinstall any bolts you removed and install the deck.
