Question about Kicker Solo-Baric S12L5 Car Subwoofer

Subwoofer noise when volume is at low level sounds like the mid and highs are playing thru the woofers . ive turned my gain and my crossover adjustment is set back

Subwoofer makes noise like an untuned TV regardless of volume knob


I would suggest your crossover unit has failed in the speaker cabinet. The crossover circuit board separates the low and high frequency content of your stereos audio signal. The low frequencies go to the bass unit (woofer) and the high frequencies go to the tweeter speaker. If the capacitor on the crossover goes open or near open circuit then noise is introduced into the sound system. Replace either the capacitor or crossover unit.

How do I tune my KICKER 08ZX1000? I have the amp running to alpine type r 12 inchs at 2 ohms but I don't know where the bass boost , gain, and crossover knobs should be pointing or what one to turn up...


To start, turn the gains on your amp all the way down. Bass boost should be off (this us used if you listen to your subs at low volume, the boost will heat your amp up quick if you use at high volume). Then turn the volume on your headunit up to 3/4 full. Make sure the filter on your amp is on low pass. The crossover point should be at it's lowest too. With all these in place, you can begin turning up the gain. You will have to decide at what point to move the crossover point. Since there are different styles of music, you will have to listen to where you feel notes are "dropping off" from the music. Adjust the crossover point to your liking, but remember that subs were made to reproduce low frequencies. Hope this helps

Iw-803 earthquake sound in wall speaker throws amp into protection mode at high volume.. removed all speaker components ( woofer, mid, tweet) and just hooked up crossover - still shots at high volume....


many amplifiers protect against a short and against an open. They are looking for speaker resistance within limits. Your wire to the speaker may be too long or too thin. You may have hooked up more than 1 speaker per output causing too low resistance. Keep your wires short as possible and use 12 or larger gauge wire if you are driving large wattage speakers. Check the ohm rating on your speakers and compare them with what the amplifier calls for. Hope this helps

This is most likely caused by an overload from the amp. Depending on what setting you have it on, you should adjust the gain and any other boosters to about midrange. If you put it all the way it will cut out as you're experienceing. Try to lower the gain and such and see if that helps. If that's not the case, then your amp may be damaged and can't handle the load.

a crossover cuts the certain tones out of the sound.example: the high side cuts out low and mid tones,or the mid side cuts out high and low. The only problems this could be is that the crossover is not set right or not wired right. These speakers should be plugged into the high side of the crossover. If wired right and set right then your crossover is no good.

the conductor xxx\blk is the minus or black( from speaker) the outher is positive\red pin from speaker) the woofer is bigest speaker inside is connected on the crossover at low output, tweeter at high output, if you connect wrong you can burn speakers and crossover, you can test with very low volume on amplifier.

1st connect low to woofer, it only her low freq below 500Hz like drums and bass, if connect on med out the speaker is working as handpocket old radio audio. if connect on high the speaker is like no audio out. (the woofer take about 60-75% of amp power).

2nd connect the midrange at mid output you can listen to human voice cristal clear. if connect on high output you listem like esteric female shouting.

And connect the tweeter at the empty output

Take particular attention on polarity terminals, if you exchange the polarity you have a moofle sound traped inside of speaker, and some structered box noise who may open the box panels in future.

Problem with focal k2 power and focal fiberglass speakers in car


It could be the setup of the speakers, but I would install a crossover equalizer for your situations. A crossover equalizer is supposed to automatically filter the necessary frequencies to the correct speakers. I have used no name and brand name XverEQs and they both worked the same for me. Along with this response I am assuming you also have Mids and Highs to go along with the woofers.

Do you have the crossover switched to "low pass"? and the frequency control below 80hz? Do you have the manual? If you need more help, post a comment and I can walk you thru it. Hope this helps

It will power off if the frequency range of the signal being sent to it is set too low, or the amplitude of the signal is too low as well.

Try increasing the subwoofer crossover frequency and/or increase the gain from the LFE/SUB of the receiver/preamp you have it connected to. Also make sure that in the setup menus of ALL of your components have an LFE channel enabled such as by selecting the output of source material of your DVD player for example, to output 5.1. Otherwise, it will not send a signal for the subwoofer to play, nor will it play the signal if the crossover frequency is set too low.

Example; the setting on your DVD player setup menu is set to two channel: result with only one exception, subwoofer will not play

Example; subwoofer/LFE level on receiver/preamp set to -10dB and/or subwoofer volume too low. Result: subwoofer will not play.

Example; subwoofer crossover point set at 35Hz. Source material playing sound at 30Hz and lower. Result: subwoofer will not play.

Bi-amp


After examining a picture of a 5802 ( I have been servicing adcom for over 20 years ), these are not bi amp posts, but bi wire posts.

Bi-amp means that 2 amps are being used, one for highs, one for lows. This means that you have no crossovers in the speakers, instead, you have an electronic crossover between the amps and the pre-amp. The highs and lows are separated in the electronic crossover. One amp handles the lows, one handles the highs.

Bi-wire means that you have the crossovers still inside the speakers. The amp handles the full range of music ( highs-mids-lows ). Different kinds of speaker wire produce different results. If you have bi-Wire terminals on your speaker, they come with shorting wires, that tie the tweeter + to the woofer + on the back of the speaker, and the tweeter - to the woofer - . When the shorting wires are removed completely, you have now electrically separated the tweeter and woofer from each other, while maintinaing the crossovers ( inside the speaker ) for each.When this is done, you can now bi-wire the speakers and amp, and use different kinds of wire for the lower frequencies and the upper frequencies, depending on your ears ( everyone hears a little differently, thats why there are so may makers of components, and wire ).

Why do we have crossovers?.....the tweeter voice coils ( the things that make the sound ) are made of hair thin wire. This wire cannot handle much power and if you were to put bass in to a tweeter, you would burn the tweeter out almost instantly. A tweeter is a very light, fast moving device which can react very quickly to high frequency sounds ( symbols, triangles, guitar strings....). Woofers are more rugged. They have voice coils made of heavier wire and are designed for larger movements that Bass demands. Subsequently, woofers aren't very good for high frequencies because they are slower devices.

So what do we do ?.....Keep the lows away from the tweter and the highs away from the woofer.....thats the job of the crossover.

In the event that your speaker has the crossover OUTSIDE the speaker box, you should check ( as always ) with the manufacturer of the speaker to see how it can be changed to suit your needs. Remember to always read and follow your owners manual. Good luck....Rob
