Call customer support your lazer is not dead yet but that is a sign of failing freezing with blu ray means that it can no longer read the disk and the system has locked up you might want to self fix it by replacing it your self for 80 bucks instead of sending to sony for $150 but they renew a 1 year warrenty if you send it to them

My PS2 will play only some DVD movies fine. It does the same with PS2 games. Seems like they have removed something that the older, larger PS2s had that allowed them to read DVDs more deeply and play...

Hi there Mike,

The only possible reason for your problem, since your slimline ps2 is STILL reading them (but just a little slow sometimes), is because the lens could hardly read your discs due to dust build up. Try cleaning it using a disc cleaner and letting it spin for like 30 seconds. If this does not fix the issue, then you may have to MANUALLY clean the lens. Open the cover and once you see the lens, get a clean swab or qtip and damp it in an alcohol and gently wipe the lens in a circular manner. Then let it dry and try to play those discs again.

Please let me know how this goes. Thank you for using FixYa.

DVDs freeze every few seconds while playing

this could be from a number of issues. first is it a home made disk? second the type of changer you are using?

home made disks can be fixed by using a + or - disk depending on the disk and what the drive likes.

as for the second issue it could be a cooling issue or the lens might be dirty try blowing it out with some can air and try to use a lens cleaner disk. they should be able to sell one for about $5 - $10

Choppy sound and video on laptop

Unfortunately your video card memory is probably lacking. And/or your settings are set too high for your processor to handle. Right click on your desktop, goto properties, goto settings, and select for best perfomance then apply.

CD's play simple audio files. DVD's and games play large video files and large audio files that are choppy on older systems. you may need to upgrade your memory. Make sure you delete all you dont use, run disk cleanup. REstart. Run, disk defrag, Restart.

A good test is goto : www.belarc.com or belarcadvisor.com

They will tell you if yoursystem is uptodate.

Good luck!

You may just be running a older processor?

Let me konw,
Mark

Dvd not read or played

Try to boot from the DVD rive by using any a windows installation disk. If you can't, then boot to windows and download and update your firmware. If still the same thing, load bios defaults, shut down system, unplug system from power outlet, push and hold down the tower's power button for ten seconds, replug system, turn on system, try to use the dvd drive. If still no go, replace dvd drive.

Blue Screen and Computer freeze after using Memorex CD-R & DVD RW

Is it possible to try this drive in another PC? My recommendatoin, if the drive performs to specs in the other PC, would be to perform a System Restore (not the XP one, but rather the one that uses the HP disks). If you do decide to do the restore, be sure to backup anything that is irreplacable as the restore will put your system back to factory settings. Good luck!
