If you are asking the memory capacity, then there are many available in the market ranging from 40 GB to 2 TB.
But if you are asking about the sizing, it usually comes in two standard sizes, 2.5in and 3.5in

Why am I getting a white screen on startup but no desk top appearing?

If the laptop is under warranty, you may be able to get it fixed, but be sure to let them know if you have personal files that you don't want to lose.

Otherwise, the screen may be failing, or the hard drive may be failing, or just the OS or hard drive corrupted. You could try this... Pull the hard drive out, and use a USB Hard Drive Adapter to connect the hard drive to a friend's computer, and save all the personal files (documents, pictures, etc.) you can to a folder on the friend's computer or an external hard drive.
Then, you could try to do a Factory Restore on the computer, and if that works, copy your personal files back to your newly restored computer. If you cannot successfully Factory Restore, you may need a new machine.

How do I choose a hard drive?

It depends upon where the hard disk is to be installed, ie. in a desktop computer, in a laptop or in an USB hard drive case.

A 3 1/2 inch hard drives can be a IDE/PATA or a SATA type. Older computers use IDE/PATA hard drives and the maximum size you can install in a desktop depends upon the computer's BIOS.
SATA hard drives are generally used in later model computers and the size of the hard drive is not limited by the BIOS.

A 2 1/2 inch hard drives are used in laptops and are available in IDE/PATA and SATA types. The size and limitations of IDE/PATA hard drives also apply to laptops. The same applies to SATA hard drives.
The choice and size of hard drive depends upon your requirements and how much you want pay.
Don't forget to check BIOS for the maximum IDE/PATA hard drive size you can install in your computer.

Windows detected a hard disk problem

Hard drives fail very often in computers. You can sometimes save your personal information by removing the hard drive and installing it in an external enclosure, and then accessing the drive by usb from another computer.

SATA hard drives are low priced and very easy to replace. You can order a new one at Amazon or NewEgg.com. Make sure you are getting the correct size (desktops accept 3.5" drives and laptops use 2.5" drives).

My computer isnt recognizing it

You will need to install the drivers to your computer before the system will see the drive because of the "size" of the drive (1 TB) and the way the OS will need to "talk" to the drive in order to recognize the correct size and know how to place the files on the drive.

Seagate,external, Hard drive,160GB,knocked over,doesnt work

Buy a new drive. The beeps are coming from the hard drive and they say I'm broken. If you need to recover data, and only if you need it like life and death because it will cost a bit, send it to a data recovery company. I would search on line and look for somebody local to you for this if you need it.

As for your old drive, if you like to tinker, you may be able to remove the drive from the case and replace it with a similar sized drive with a matching interface (ide or sata). I personally like to remove the rare earth magnets from bad drives to make refrigerator magnets and toss the aluminum housing into the metal recycling barrel. It also ensure personal data is never coming off those platters.

Will not connect to computer

If it's ticking, it's likely damaged. I know some hard drives have a high failure rate, and can die early.

320 GIG Hard Drive now thinks it is an 80 GIG hard drive

Enter your BIOS setup and check what the BIOS sees for hard-drive. It may not be assessing the drive size correctly so you may have to force it by manually entering the data it needs to see the drive.
