The camera was working fine, my daughter ran the batteries down, and now it won't turn on. I've tried fresh batteries, but no go.

The Canon A series cameras have been known to just stop working sometimes. If it is under 1 year old and you have it registered or have he reciept then you can contact Canon. they will take care of it for ya. If not then you are better off to buy a new one. or a used one of that model if you really liked it. but the repair would run you more than likely over 100 dollars.

HI GOOD DAY I CANT TURN ON MY CAMERA IT DOESNT WORK EVAN WITH NEW BATERY THANKS

Check to make sure the batteries are inserted correctly.
Clean the battery terminals with a dry cotton swab that has a fine and soft tip, and then re-insert the batteries. If the [Memory Card / Battery Cover] is not securely closed, the power of the camera may not turn on.Close the [Memory Card / Battery Cover] securely, and then turn the power on.
If your camera still does not work even after you have performed the above procedures, your camera may be malfunctioning. Please have the camera serviced in this case.

Hi I have a Canon A460 which has worked fine. My problem is with the transfer of images to the computer. I get either a message saying camera not found or I get a message saying camera detected with a box ...

Well, obviously your registry has changed and your camera is no longer recognized. No problem....just get a card reader and use it in place of your camera. That's what the pros do.

I cannot open the pics taken in my canon a460 camera into my pc

Please see the following blog article, as it describes the use of a card reader as a much easier, faster, and less error prone way to download your photos. In fact there are several important reasons discussed in the article for using a card reader vice downloading from the camera. USB Card readers are also very inexpensive these day, with cost virtually not an issue:

Canon powershot A460 camera not recognized by

Try NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program such as Picasa.

The zoom won't work on my Canon A460

Your zoom may be turned off, here is how you can turn it back on:
When you are about to take a picture, press the little menu button, then press down until it says digital zoom, if the little black box is over-top of 'off' change it to say 'on'.
Hope this helps.....and makes sense.

Canon A460 problem

I have a Canon A460 and the only red light I know of is the auto-focus light. If it's a low battery you'll see the indicator on the screen, not a light.

Canon powershot a460

I have a Canon A460 that does this every now and then. Usually if I removed the batteries and put them back in, it does the trick. If that doesn't work, and the camera will stay on, try resetting it. Click Menu> Tools and then scroll all the way to the last option Reset All. Good luck!
