Can I copy the disc to a pen drive and run from the pen drive which is more convenient than running from the CD?

Yes you can do that. you copy files to your cd to your pen drive and then run the applications .exe file.
But there are some instances that you cannot copy a file from cd to pen drive or even to computer.
This instances is caused by CD that is copyright protected. it means that the files of the CD is not allowed by the Producers to be copied. Also, if your CD is bootable, when you transfer the files to a pen drive, your files will not be bootable anymore.

Hope my solution helped. Thanks for using fixya!

Write protection

Get this program:
http://www.4shared.com/file/72797673/93a74bfa/UsbWriteProtect.html

You might need to get winrar from http://www.rarlab.com/
to open the rar file.

Extract all the files to a new folder, run the exe file and click the or disable Radio button and close the program.

Now remove the pen drive and plug it back in to the USB slot, Now open my computer and try to create a new folder in the pen drive, you can't. You get an error. That's what you wanted right? :-)

Cannot Open Excel 2000 File.

I presume you are trying to open the document using the Recently Opened file list in Excel's "File" menu. If so, use the "Open" entry in the "File" menu instead and navigate to the pen drive from there - it may be that the drive letter has changed. Another possibility: use Windows Explorer (which can be accessed by double clicking on My Computer) to copy the file from the pen drive to the desktop and open it from there by double clicking on it. If that still doesn't work (but the copy worked OK) then right click on the file, click on "Properties" and see if the Read Only box is checked. If so, uncheck it.

And yet another possibility: after closing the file, did you pull the pen drive from the PC without telling Windows to eject it first? If you just remove the drive too quickly, without ejecting it first, the file can easily be corrupted.
