Today my cousin accidentaly knocked off the thermostat cover (mercury type). My ac unit began to blow warm air. On inspecting the outside unit, noticed that it was not running. Makes a clicking sound when someone inside moves the thermostat up and down. Capacitor looks ok on outside. Fan works. Tried checking breakers, all OK. HELP!
I least you know where the problem is....Something got bent or a wire got disconnected in the thermostat. If all fails replace it.
Clicking sound is the contactor engaging to start the outside unit. Check for a burnt off wire at the contactor. For some reason you are not getting power to the outside unit. If you find a burnt off wire shut off all power to it then remake the connection at the point of the circuit break.
