Unplug the AC adapter from the notebook PC and remove from any port replicator or docking station. 2. Remove the battery from the notebook battery compartment. 3. Press and hold down the power button for about 20 seconds. 4. Insert the battery and plug the AC adapter back into the notebook PC. 5. Press the power button to turn the notebook PC back on. now wat i dont understand is.. the battery aint charging and yet i cant use just the charger and no battery .. i get the charge light blinking 3 times and no boot up... unless i do this.. cant run it without the battery in and the charger pluged in at the same time.. cant use just the charger.. is it the ac jack, battery or charger.. now i put the charger on a voltage tester and pulled 15.90 i read on google thats about ideal... so i dont think its the charger.. can u help me pls techiesguru

Whenyou connect the power adapter into the laptop, does the power LED light up? Ifnot then - The battery adapter or the adapter's power lead or the laptop's powersocket could be faulty. Check power adapter's DCplug that connects into the laptop power socket with a multi-meter, the voltageshould be slightly higher than the voltage that is printed on the label on thebottom of the adapter. If the voltage is zero or way below the voltage that isprinted on the label then the power adapter is faulty and needs to be replaced. If the adapter is OK thenconnect it to the laptop and power it up, then look at the power/batterycharging LED light and wriggle the power plug in the laptop's power socket. If the power/battery LED light flashes and in a certain position this LED lightstays firm, then the power socket is either faulty or it has a dry solder jointwhere it is connected to the motherboard. This can be repaired but itrequires the laptop to be completely dismantled to get at this power socket andrepair. If you cannot DIY then I suggest you get a quote first.

well it seems to be a problem on going i tryed to find out but i cant seem to find the problem, now i got to keep doing all the methods that techiesguru posted bout the static but now it seems that i have to do this everytime,, no the light dont come on at all if its just pluged in and not powered on no lights, if i turn it on yes the charger light blinks and the power and hd lights are on as well... but no charge to the battery

  • Anonymous Dec 04, 2010

From your description of your problem and the power hard disk LED lights are on, then I think the problem is in the charging circuit inside the laptop.

    OR

The problem could be the battery.

If the laptop battery is more than 3 - 4 years old then the battery could be worn out. Rechargeable batteries have a finite number of charge and discharge cycles and will lose their charge capacity over time, i.e. won't charge to 100% and gradually the charge reduces until the battery won't charge up at all.

OR The battery shows a 100% charge but when the adapter is disconnected the battery drops off to zero capacity in a very short time.

If the battery drops to an unacceptable charge level then the battery needs to be replaced.

I have pulled quire a few laptop apart and have not found one that has the power socket with a plug in harnest assembly, they were all are soldered on the circuit board.
I have not the chance to pull apart a HP G60 laptop and cannot tell you if the power socket is on a harnest.
Before you junk this laptop, I suggest you do the following.
Reseat the RAM modules - remove and insert them back a few times to make sure they make proper contact.
Do the same with the CPU chip - this requires removing the fan and hear sink assembly.
Best of luck, I'm out of further suggestions.

Kind of vague. It could be the port on your laptop where the charger plugs into. It could be bad, or could have a bad connection to the motherboard due to use or manufacturing defect. When the charger stops charging then it has to use the battery power. This morning the battery may have had a low charge causing the laptop to shut down. Did you notice the battery's power level before it shut down? If you are wiggling the end of the charger that is plugged into your laptop to get it to start charging again, then that is most likely your problem. Do not wiggle it , for it could fry your motherboard. If that is the case then that port needs to be re-soldered.

This sounds more like a defective charging circuitry on the laptop's motherboard. To save you time, my sole recommendation is to disassemble the laptop & inspect the motherboard for burnt or melted components near the power receptacle area. Any burnt or melted components will need to be replaced. If the damage is severe, you might need to replace the motherboard altogether.
