Question about Sony DVP-NC85H Multi-disc DVD Player

1 Answer

Stuck in "loading" mode

I should clarify-this is a Sony portable DVD player-DVP-FX730. My kids each got them for xmas last year. One works fine and the other just started to stay in the "loading" mode for a really long time. Eventually it gives up and says that it can't play the disc. I have tried powering off, letting it hang out for a few days, etc. We have put in different discs-some brand new, and still the same.

So are there really repairmen to take these to out there in the world. How do I find them?

how long have you been using this player and when did this begin?

Remove the disc and try another. If the player refuses to eject the disc, remove it from the wall and fix it back and fix it back again. Then turn the player on.

If the player still gets stuck on "loading" mode for other disc, then it means the laser is weak.

The lens is weak such that it cannot load data on discs. Its spinning, trying to load, but can't because of the weak laser.

Get a lens cleaner, use it to clean the lens. If that doesn't solve the problem, get a screw driver, open the player's cover so that you can gain access to the lens, use a cotton board to clean the surface of the lens. This should clean dust or dirt that might be on the lens.

If non of the above solves the problem, then know that you need to replace the laser to a brand new one.

To replace the lens, remove the bad laser, use it as a sample to get exactly the same type and do the replacement. Note that replacing a laser (lens) needs a professional touch, so if you cannot replace the laser, get it to a repairman to fix it for you.

Once this us done, your player will play all discs again.

Good luck.

I still think its a laser problem. The laser is responsible for loading data on discs and I believe its weak, that's why it cannot load discs.

    Take care.

of course yes. Any electronics repairman should be able to fix this. look around for any local repairman within your vicinity/area and it should be fixed for you.

In my country, this is very easy to fix.

    Take care.

This sounds like a possible filesystem corruption, possibly due to a bad update from Apple. What is the error that "Disk Utility Repair" gives you?
You may be able to take it to an Apple store to get your data restored, as they (sometimes) have special tools that scrape the existing data from the filesystem even if the metadata is corrupt.

Moved TV to a different room and the TV power button is blinking like it is in "standby" mode. How do I get it off "standby" mode??????

unplug it for about 30 mins it will reset it. if that doesnt work it will be stuck in standby mode until a video source is activated. if you are using hdmi both the tv and the hdmi device must be on. (hdcp compliant devices must be turned on at the same time otherwise it will say stuck in stand by mode they do this to prevent people from trying to rip content off hdmi and blu rays had the same issue with my tv and xbox.

My dryer is stuck on "Control Lock"

See if you can get into the diagnostic mode. If not, you will need to replace the "user interface" on the machine. Here is a link to the part if you should need it.
ACTIVATING THE DIAGNOSTIC TEST MODE 1. Make sure that the dryer is in the "Standby" mode (plugged in and all of the indicators are off). 2. Press the following control panel keypad sequence all within 5 seconds: More Time-Less Time-More Time- Less Time. 3. All indicators on the console should now be illuminated with "88" showing in the "Estimated Time Remaining" display, if this test mode has been entered successfully.
