My laptop only connects to the internet in safe mode

Boot into safe mode with networking. Download malware-bytes Run a full malware scan, remove any malware and reboot into normal mode. This may have fixed the issue. Failing this download super anti spyware and do the same with that tool. If both these tools come back virus free / do not fix the issue click on start, run. Type 'msconfig' into the box, hit enter. Half the startup items and reboot into normal mode. If you can access the Internet the software causing the problem is in the half of the startup items not running. Keep halving this half until you find the suspect software and remove it. ( no matter how big the number of startup items it will always take the same amount if halfing to narrow it down to one.

Mouse and keyboard not responding upon opening

LOL, good ole Norton. I hope you give Norton the boot once you get this fixed. Try booting up in Safe Mode and see if they work.

Go to www.google.com and in the search box type:"Download cnet Malwarebytes" (without the quotes). Download andinstall malwarebytes from the sites download.cnet/malwarebytes. When thesite opens up click on the Green Download button on the left. Do notclick the Red Download button, that's junk. When it finishes installing the GuiInterface will open up with an offer to Accept a Trial Version orDecline. CLICK DECLINE you want the totally free version. Run aQUICK SCAN. As it scans, if it finds infections the number will be inred. When it finishes scanning, click SHOW RESULTS. A notepad textdocument will open up showing you the results. You can close the textdocument and go back to the Gui Interface where you will click REMOVE SELECTEDRESULTS. The objects will already be selected for you. When itfinishes removing the objects click ok and it will sometimes reboot yourmachine.

If after all the above they both still do not function, lets restore your system back to a day before Norton notified you to turn the computer off.

Click Start/Programs/Accessories/System Tools/SystemRestore. Select a Restore Point (date and time) that is before youstarted having problems. System Restore does not delete you data, documentsmusic, pictures, videos or programs (unless the program was installed after therestore point you selected).

System Recovery loses all your data, documents, music, pictures, videos andprograms. It sets your system back to the time you first purchased it.

This is a problem related to a Norton security software that you might have on your computer awhile , so the best way to correct the problem is to download Norton removal tool and then after that run the software and that should do it.

You have most likely acquired some malware that Norton did not catch (this is not just a problem with Norton, but with all virus products). Go to www.malwarebytes.org and download the latest free version. If your malware is particularly nasty, it will block this site in which case you'll have to download the software on another computer and put it on a USB drive or CD. Boot your computer into safe mode (hit F8 repeatedly upon turning on your computer until the boot menu comes up) and select Safe Mode with Networking. Once in safe mode, install and run the MalwareBytes program. Let it update (if it can) and run a full scan (will take some time). After it completes, have it remove all infected files. Now reboot the computer and let it start normally. Run a complete scan with Norton and it should start updating again with no problems.

Wireless network connected but no internet

Try to reboot the computer in safe mode with networking. Tap F8 during the boot sequence when you see the manufacturers splash screen. Once it boots in safe mode, see if you can get online. If you can, then the problem is a program or driver that starts during normal startup procedures....I suspect Norton 360....it screws more systems up than it helps. I would suggest at that point you have a couple of options.....get the norton system removal tool and get rid of that program and when you do make sure to reset all your security, especially your firewall. Next, if you still can't get online, Use system restore to restore the computer back before you installed Norton. Also make sure that if have changed the normal startup to selective startup, that might give you issues too. Go to the start button on your taskbar, select run > type "msconfig" in the text box...leave off the quotation marks please. When the window opens make sure that normal start is chosen and reboot. Good luck, if none of this helps, I can talk you through some CMD lines to see if you have a valid IP address to your router.

Compaq presario, can't connect to the internet

Hi,

Initially, it has to be confirmed that your laptop is virus free before all others could be addressed. Failing to do so would make all subsequent actions suspect. Pls try to:
  • uninstall Norton Antivirus;
  • download, install, run and update Ad-Aware. Please do it twice, immediately after install when normal mode is running, reboot and run again in Safe Mode. Safe Mode is accomplished by pressing F8 before Windows boot. In both instances, quarantine/delete any and all scanned findings;
  • download, install, run and update Avira. Please do it twice, immediatelyafter install when normal mode is running, reboot and run again in SafeMode. Safe Mode is accomplished by pressing F8 before Windows boot. Inboth instances, quarantine/delete any and all scanned findings;
  • reboot in normal mode;
  • press Windows key + R, type "msconfig" less the quotes;
  • click on the Startup tab and un-check everything that says, notifier, update, blank/no entry, registration, reboot;
  • upon reboot, press Ctrl-Alt-Del, press on Performance tab and determine how much is the CPU usage;
  • pls postback here the results.
Just a start, do postback how things turned up or should you need additional information. Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa.

Computer said norton virus had expired then computer went into hibernation and now will not restart

Try to restart the computer in safe mode or safe mode with networking. Go to control panel, add or remove programs (or programs and features if its vista), and try to remove norton antivirus completely. If that does not work, and you are in safe mode with networking, download the norton removal tool from the internet and run that to remove the norton antivirus completely. Your computer should be able to boot to the normal window, you can downlaod the norton antivirus latest version from the norton website or purchase the norton antivirus disc from any store. All the best.

HELP!!! Computer stopped working when anit-virus was installed?????

Assuming you are using windows xp. 1. Boot up into windows safe mode by pressing the "F8" key during boot process. 2. Choose "Safe Mode without networking" on the menu and after entering your desktop a pop-up will appear telling you that you are using windows safe mode, just press "OK" then uninstall Norton Anti-Virus. 3. Shut-down and/or reboot computer. Another alternative would be to boot into safe mode and perform a system restore. If you choose to do this, you still need to uninstall Norton Anti-Virus because a system restore will only fix just system files not programs that were installed. In other words, you will have a partial installation of Norton Anti-Virus in your computer. As to why this happened, could be a compatability issue with the use of Norton and some other program. Good luck.
