SD cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the metal contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card.

SOURCE: Card Error

you should be able to re-format the card using the "tools" tab which is at the left-hand bottom side of the main menu. This should wipe out all images and any bad data that may have been stored by the memory card.

I get the message "card error". What will happen if i pull the write protect switch on the side of the card? Will that fix the problem with the "card error" or what should I do?

The switch controls card protection. The position farthest from the metal contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card. If the switch is currently in the lock position, then moving it may solve the problem.

What happens with another memory card?

IF THE SLIDER IS MISSING, put a little piece of tape over the area where the slider should be, this allows the reader to read it 9_2_2011_3_26_35_pm.jpg

When I turn my camera on I get the protected card message. i cant do anything with this card

Look at your memory card. SD cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card. If the switch is already in the proper position, slide it fully the other way and then back again.

The FujiFilm XP10 is supposed to be shock resistant up to 3 feet. On accident, I dropped it, but it was only about a foot from the ground. Since then, every time I've turned it on, the screen has read zoom...

You probably can't, but Fuji probably can. Send it in as a warranty claim and you should receive either your camera back in a repaired state or a replacement for it. Fuji is usually able to determine whether the impact exceeds the impact resistant specifications or not.
