Unplugged it. After looking for a new tv online I decided to try getting it to work. So, plugged it back in and held down the power button, a red light came on, held down the power button again and an orange light came on, held down power button again and green light came on and tv powered on. This was simply a case of trial and success!

TV quits working, screen goes black and red light next to power green light flashes 4 quick flashes . After a second or two of no flashing, red light repeats "code" flash. We pull the power plug at the TV,...

The Sony diagnostic routine for 4 blinks indicates it to be a vertical deflection problem.

Did you see a solid horizontal line in the center of the screen prior to it going out? If so, that is a tell tale sign for vertical problems.

basic sony reset below

The STANDBY light will flash if the television detects an issue within the television. Some of these issues can be resolved simply by following the steps below to reset the television.

  1. Turn off the television. IMPORTANT: For a projection television that uses an internal lamp, wait 5 minutes after turning off the television to allow the lamp to cool before continuing with the following steps.
  2. Unplug the television power cord from the electrical outlet.
  3. Let the television remain without power for 60 seconds.
  4. Plug the power cord back into the electrical outlet. NOTE: If the television is plugged into a power strip or surge protector, remove it from the power strip or surge protector and plug it directly into the wall outlet. If the issue is resolved, the problem is with the power strip or surge protector and not the television.
  5. Turn on the television.

If the issue is still unresolved after following all of the troubleshooting steps, service may be required. Please note the number of times the STANDBY light flashes and relay that information to the service center

tip

TV shows either: black screen with: white vertical or, horizontal line

If Your screen shows a: white vertical line on a black screen or, a white horizontal line on a black screen:
Your TV vertical or, horizontal power transistor or, chip is getting too hot.
A vertical line indicates the horizontal circuit is at fault, a horizontal line indicates the vertical circuit is at fault.
To troubleshoot: Turn on your TV untill the line shows then: after about a minute, remove power (unplug) the TV, remove the TV back cover, find the too hot transistor or, chip; using component coolant; spray the too hot component with the component cooler until the screen comes back to normal. To fix: apply white coolant cream to the back of the too hot transistor or, chip. or, if there is room, a small fan can be wired in to cool the part. Radioshack sells the cream and, also a "component cooler spray" that should find and, fix this problem, also; with power removed you can, if you feel it is safe; carefully (with only one hand) feel the part; it will be very hot! (it could burn your finger!) Do not touch anything else! (this will not hurt the tv; when the picture comes back on (the offending part has cooled) you have found the problem part.

Ds lite flashes on but fuses are ok

One or both your screens have blown.

Try removing the motherboard from the screens and attach the battery the green light should turn on and stay on.

Now attach the lower screen and turn on. If the screen is ok the screen and green light will flash and then turn off. (if the screen doesn't flash the bottom screen is you're problem and will have to be replaced)

If this happens the problem is then you're top screen which you will have to replace.
