at this point it sounds as though the drive itself is corrupted It is very difficult to try to get the data off once this happens and so there are data recovery places which charge into the thousands to do this.

How can I mount an IBM AIX hard drive in Windows?

AIX uses a file system that is not supported by Microsoft Windows. Most likely you will need another AIX system to read the file system. I recommend that you contact a hard drive recovery service like Ontrack Data Recovery and get some guidance.

You should remove it from the Windows computer ASAP. Windows has the habit of making changes to any disk it sees and you may lose everything!

I hope this helps.

Recognized - but no mount

Don't know about the MAC part, but an I/O error implies that the either the source file cannot be read or the destination drive will not write. This is usually an indicator of a bad HDD. To check, I would attempt to connect the external drive to another computer. If it still gives the same indication, contact the drive manufacturer about data recovery recommendations

Firelite HD 160GB won't mount on PC

Try this site: http://sewelldirect.com/USBManualShareSwitch2To1.asp. Although you must purchase this "splitter", you can use the Hard drive on two different computers. CAREFUL! Make sure that only ONE computer is reading or writing to the same file at a time! If you have a crossover, the hard drive could crash!

Files are permanently read only.

What operating system are you using? If your using a Microsoft Windows operating system, you can go to Start->My Computer , open my computer, and right click on the drive in My Computer, and change the access of the drive there.

If your using a NIX(Linux, Unix, OSX) operating sytem, you need to mount the drive with rwx permissions, and to do that you'll have to edit the fstab file in /etc.

Format Hard Drive Error

If the unit detects any form of Hard Drive Error it asks you to format the drive. Connect the unit to your PC and run ScanDisk or DOS Chkdsk on the drive. Will help to rectify any issues with the FAT. Windows XP & 2000 Running Check Disk Utility (ChkDsk) ? HARD DRIVE mode only If you still have problems with the file system on your AV 500 you can try to fix it using the DOS utility, check disk (chkdsk). Do the following; ? Make sure external AC adapter is powering the AV 500. ? Quit all running applications. ? Properly connect the AV 500 to your computer ? Wait patiently (up to 5 minutes) for Windows XP to show the local drive as mounted. ? Open a DOS window. Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt. ? At the prompt, type chkdsk e: /f . Use e: or f: or whatever drive letter is representing your AV 500. The /f argument tells the program to automatically fix errors. ? Be patient, this may take a while. ? When finished, exit the DOS Window and properly disconnect the AV 500 from your computer. Now try using the device. DO NOT try to defrag the drive. Let us know how you get on.
