Do you have any type of audio equipment on top of TV? If so, the solution may be as simple as to remove them. If your set has a "degauss" button reset it as well. In Laymens terms," The audio equipment if not shielded, creates a magnetic field in which it will start to distort the color line up in the pixels at the point with the strongest pull, and work its way away from the origination point and eventually the image." Hope this helps, otherwise that's it for my expertise on this matter.

GE 46GW947 tv colors wont align, screen looks distorted - from the write-ups, appears to be a convergence issue - is there a DIY repair procedure? can it be seen on website first?

You need the convergence board reworked. You may try www.TvRepairKits.com. This set may be to old for this website. I would suggest looking at Union Electronics for a replacement board. Call 1 800 648 6657. For safety sakes find a TV technician or or an electrician to install this for you! Thanks for asking!

Distorted picture that curves up at the bottom of the screen

My 9 years old Mitsubishi WS-55857 had the same problem (distorted pictures) for couple of months and I was about to buy a new plasma TV. But, I found TvRepairKits.com and I decided to give a try before buying a new TV. I received a convergence repair kit in two days with web site info for detailed instructions with many picutres to explain the process. When I had questions and Ed was very prompt to answer my questions thru the e-mail. I never done solding before, but I am moderate handy person. I spent less than $100 and three hours and my TV picutre looks stunning. I went thru advanced convergence process after I repalced the convergence chips and replaced RCA video cable with better quality and my TV picture looks as good as brand new. Thansk ED for your help! Hutachi 43inch rear projection 5 yrs old

Hi,

Hitachi Convergence

Check out the Convergence Gallery. If you see the colored outlines or color shading as in the Gallery, you have a convergence problem.

The repair for a Hitachi requires the replacement of the defective IC or ICs and any damaged or smoked resistors. Some models don't have a separate convergence board and the board is not usually available for the ones that do have a separate convergence board. Usually there is little alignment required after the repair. If you play with all the adjustments before the fix, hours may be spent re-aligning.

If you change the original ICs with substitute "new and improved" parts that are talked about in the blogs, you will probably create problems. Use the original ICs and resistors.

Don't monkey with it.

This is a delicate and difficult repair. If not done by someone with some electronic repair experience, the TV will likely end up as junk or cost considerably more for a tech to fix the damage done.

If you live in Calgary, call me. If elsewhere, find a competent tech.

One or more colors can't be adjusted when when using the convergence menu.
Screen is bowed in but stationary.

Solution:
You need to replace the convergence chips and convergence resistors. Check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. They have put together a kit for your exact model. The kit inlcludes a photo instruction guide, original Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, etc. Everything you need to fix it yourself. Its an easy fix.
