The only fix is to have it replaced, but your camera is now around six to seven years old and so it's beyond economic repair.
The spares are no longer available as the camera is past it's original design lifespan, if you did find a spare it would need professional fitting and the labour costs would far exceed the camera value.
For less than the repair costs, you could now buy the Fuji S1500 for about £120. It does pretty much all that your current model does and to a far higher standard.
I would contact Fuji as S5000 have been known to have the problems with the CCD sensor going out which causes the screen to go white. Fuji's number is:

Hi! Yes, it's the image sensor (CCD). For Fujifilm it usually comes together with lens and that makes it quite expensive - about 200$ here. I whink you should get a new one.
dear sorry to tell u but ur FUJI S5000 have a CCD HR failure which is due to the manufacturing fault in these CCD'd thats y fuji now adays stopped working on these CCD's and got tons of recalls for that it occurs after 4 to 5 years of use and this fault was present in all cameras manufactured between 2002-2005 , the ccd offcourse u can check with fuji try hard to get it replaced free of charge other wise consider buying a new one it is not that much expensive there new model as compared in those days it is around 250-300 $ a better version of this , pls vote me generously if u think i helped u
Your CCD sensor has failed. Common digital problem that uses Sony sourced CCD chips. Proffesional factory replacement of CCD is only fix or buy another physicaly damaged unit and swap CCD boards. Not hard but intricate and time consuming.
There was a recall (free repair) for the Finepix S5000 from Fuji.
It affected the ccd-sensor of many cameras.
It does depend on the serial number of your camera.
Email them and give them your camera details.
You might get it repaired.
They do not sell any ! spares .
4/8/08 FOR ALL CCD SENSOR'S MFG by Sony: Found the answer. Sony Repair service is fixing for free any CCD sensor problems on "any" camera that had a "Sony Manufactured CCD sensor". I have now called the service center and they sent me a UPS Return label so I can send my camera in for "free" repair. This is good news!!! I can't remember the site I was on but they listed all brands that had the Sony mfg. CCD sensors in them. So call the Sony Repair Center to find out if your camera has the Sony CCD sensor in it. This was an error in the manufacturing process and they are standing good for this.
CCD sensor faulty ( sits behind the lens inside and this device converts light into image ) . If the camera has not been abused the repair ought to be done free of charge because properly manufactured CCD or CMOS unit should last 15 years !
CCD sensor is faulty and should be replaced by Fuji agent free of charge because properly manufactured CCD sensor should last 15 years at least. Otherwise pay for labor to have new CCD block put in ( 1 hour ) and insist on the agent covering the cost of the part.
