The light flashing may mean more things, not just a paper jam. Could mean any of the following:
- Front cover is open: Close the front cover of the printer.
- Back cover is open: Close the back cover of the printer.
- Paper jam: Clear the paper jam. To see paper jams and how to clear them, click here. If the printer does not start printing, press the Go button.
- No paper fed manual feed slot: Put the paper back in the manual feed slot.
- Memory full: The printer memory is full and the printer cannot print full pages of a document. To solve this problem, click here.
- Print overrun: A print overrun occurred and the printer cannot print full pages of a document. To solve this problem, go here.

Paper jammed

Lift up the upper section of the printer (just like you were going to replace an ink cartridge) and look for the smallest torn piece of paper hiding in the gears. Then tip up and gently remove the top (black) paper tray assembly and remove any paper in the tray. Grab a flash light and check the "in" feed area.

Put it all back together and hit "start copy". If noting still clears the jam unplug the printer (power cord) from the wall, wait 30 seconds and plug it back in.

Hopefully that clears the paper Jam message.
If not call HP Support Center @ 1-866-408-5408. They're available 24/7.

THE PRINTER IS INDICATING A PAPER JAM, THERE IS NO SIGN OF PAPER, THE DRAWERS ARE ALL CLOSED TIGHT

Paper light flashing could mean a few things on this machine.

There could be a paper jam in the machine. Open the front cover remove the drum and toner and look in the machine. Open the back cover and look for a Jam as well.

Try putting a piece of paper in the manual feed tray which is right above the paper tray, sometimes on certain documents the margins are too big and asks to go into the manual feed slot.

My Brother HL 5250DN printer has started making a loud clicking sound when it tries to feed paper for printing. It then stops and the paper light starts flashing.

Clear the jammed paper as follows.
Observe Cautions signs in printer.
Always remove all paper from the paper tray and straighten the stack when you add new paper. This helps prevent multiple sheets of paper from feeding through the printer at one time and prevents paper jams.
1. Press the cover release button and then open the front cover.
2. Slowly take out the drum unit and toner cartridge assembly. The jammed paper will be pulled out with the drum unit and toner cartridge assembly.
3. Pull the paper tray completely out of the printer.
4. Close the front cover.
5. Pull the jammed paper up and out of the printer.
6. Open the front cover again.
7. Open the back cover.
8. Pull the tabs at the left and right hand sides toward you to open the fuser cover (1).
9. Using both hands, gently pull the jammed paper out of the fuser unit.
10. Close the back cover.
11. Pull the duplex tray completely out of the printer.
12. Pull the the jammed paper out of the printer or the duplex tray. Put the duplex tray back in the printer.
13. Push down the blue lock lever and take the toner cartridge out of the drum unit. Clear the jammed paper if there is any inside the drum unit.
14. Put the toner cartridge back into the drum unit until you hear it lock into place. If you put the cartridge in properly, the blue lock lever will lift automatically.
15. Put the drum unit and toner cartridge assembly back in the printer.
16. Put the paper tray firmly back in the printer.
17. Close the front cover.
18. Make sure that the Paper LED is now off and the printer is ready.
After clearing paper jam if noise persist printer may need a Repair Tech and parts replacement for broken or wore parts.

Paper light keeps flashing. no paper jam and there is paper in printer. what else could it be?

Here are the led codes. Have you tried pressing the go button, and holding it down for a few seconds to reset the memory. Then press it again and see if the paper light is out.
Check also to make sure the paper setting in tray 1 is not set to undefined, but specifies your paper size. (Printer properties>Tray settings)
Then pull the tray all the way out, and look above where the paper sits for a little lever that hangs down to sense the paper. Make sure it's moving freely and not broken. Also check that there's no paper jammed in the back of the printer somewhere....

Hl 2140 error light is flashing

Got the same problem, but in fact it WAS a paper jam. Open both the back panel (can you see the orange roller clearly? If so, no jam) and the front panel. Grab the handle and take out the toner and drum and check there is no paper. Chances are there will be.

Flashing light

Here is what HP has on the subject of the triangle light flashing:
c00028322.gif 1 - Attention Light 2 - Ready Light 3 - Go Light Figure 2: Printer light key c00028323.gif 1 - Symbol for light off 2 - Symbol for light on 3 - Symbol for light blinking
c00028328.gif Door open, media out, no print cartridge, or media jam

The printer is in an error state that requires operator intervention or help. Check the following:
  • The print cartridge door is completely closed.
  • Media is loaded.
  • The print cartridge is correctly installed in the printer.
  • There is no media jam.

Figure 8: Paper jam c00028328.gif 13.JJ.NT JAM IN TRAY 1

13.JJ.NT JAM IN TRAY X

The Attention LED is blinking. Check paper loading then open and close top cover.

When there is a jam in tray 1, verify the paper is loaded correctly, open and close the top cover. Pressing GO is ignored.

When there is a jam in tray X, verify the paper is loaded correctly, open and close the top cover. Pressing GO is ignored. These are the error explanations for just the flashing triangle light, there are many more, but none for just the flashing triangle.

If the light pattern is different let me know (other lights on as well)
-Hope this helps.

Re: paper jam in brother laser printer hl 2040 : paper red ligh continue to flash

Try shutting the printer completely down & unplug power. then plug power back in and while holding down all buttons on the printer control panel, turn it back on. this should put it into a self diagnostic mode that prints out just about everything the printer can do, including a sample page. Also, be sure all rollers are clean & trays are completely closed before restarting. If the printer works when you do this, you should most liely check all settings in the software package (driver) or perhaps reinstall the drivers. If this is necessary, be sure to download the latest drivers from the Brother website.
