Bad Power Supply. Weak voltage power rail.

[There are three main power rails in the SMPS for your desktop computer.
A) The 3.3 Volt power rail
B) The 5 Volt power rail
C) The 12 Volt power rail ]

1) ALL of the LED lights on at once use less than 1 Watt of power.

2) EACH fan uses 2 to 3 Watts of power.

3) A typical Processor can use 51 to 125 Watts of power.
Just depends on what Processor it.

Remove the Processor, and you will have power to light LED lights, and spin fans.
Of course without a Processor operating, you have No computer.

Replace the Power Supply.

Do you have a KNOWN to be good, Compatible power supply available to use for a test unit?

Need guidance in replacing, or suggestions for Power Supply's to choose from, post In a Comment.

Processor overheat

Make sure that the computer is cleared from dust that may have collected over time. Make sure the CPU fan is operational, has a good connection to the board and is also not caked up with dust. Also ensure that you have a good thermal paste between the heatsink and the processor.

Is the ms 6540 motherboard compatible with the asus p5s800-vm

what u mean compatible? if u mean u want to change your ms 6540 to Asus P5S800-VM, then i tell u it cannot be done.
first thing that u look when to change mainboard is SOCKET type... ms 6540 have socket type 478 and asus p5s800-vm have socket type LGA775. thats mean your old processor cannot be use in asus. socket 478 is older than LGA775.
So if u want to change your mainboard for ASUS P5S800-vm, then u need to change your processor to... about RAM socket and VGA socket, ms 6540 have same type with ASUS P5S800 (DDR400) so u dont need to change your RAM and VGA (if u use external VGA)
hope this useful, regards.

My motherboard feels hot to touch and computer keeps freezing

It sounds like it might be the processor overheating not the board, that would explain the heat you can feel coming from the board. Turn off the computer and remove the heatsink and fan from the processor, using a dry cloth clean all of the heatsink compond of the processor and heatsink, buy another tube of heatsink compond, ensure that you spread the compond evenly all over the silver part of the processor and a bit on the heatsink where the processor touches, this will give it better cooling and hopfully stop your computer from freezing.

I have an ASUS P5S800-VM Motherboard socket LGA775

Hi,

To answer your question, yes it's possible.

I'm sure you wouldn't like it if I left it at that, so I'll explain a bit more.

It's about as simple as this: The processor you want to install into the motherboard is for an LGA 775 mobo such as yourself. Therefore, it should have no problems when you put it in.

Hope I was of assistance.

The cpu over heats, it gets up to 109 then shuts down. then fan is working bot not enough do keep it cool. We put Formula 5 on it but it still over heats. need to know what else it could be that is causing...

what is formula 5? any way remove the fan and heatsink, clean out the underside of the heatsink (remove the old heatsink compound if any)and the top of the processor. replace copmound with new copmound(a little bit goes a long way, do not over apply), re-assembly and re connect the fans power connector to the correct connector on the main board, power on pc and go to the bios settings and check that every thing is ok. make sure that the processor is set to normal or auto and that it is not over-colcked

I have Asus P5S800 main board

dr-afacan, You unfortunatley are not giving me a lot of info to work with. There could be several things to try. First check your cases front panel to Board connections. Then if they are correct I would swap out the power supply with anything compatible to check and see. If that PS is really OK. If you do not have the info for the board go here http://dlsvr03.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/socket775/P5S800-VM/e1767_p5s800-vm.pdf

Next step would be to either check the processor, possible BIOS settings or update. Or you unfortunatley just have a dead board. Asus has a good customer RMA system... Just some thoughts.....PCdok

No any display in the monitor, no beep of the RAM while CPU fan is running

Check your power supply. It sounds like you have a bad power supply. Even though the computer powers up, it does not mean that it's good. I have had this problem before, and almost 9 out of 10 times the power supply had gone bad. Just try a different one and see. hope this helps you.
