I turn the camera on, but the screen does not come on. The touch screen still works i.e. when I touch the screen I still hear the audio prompts, but it is completely black.
Did you press the disp/batt info button? That should turn the screen back on because it sounds like the screen is still working...

The most likely cause for this is a damaged or defective flexible ribbon cable that connects the LCD to the camera body. This will require disassembling the camera and LCD unit to repair and can be done fairly inexpensively. However, it's not really a user serviceable problem and should be done by a qualified service technician.
