Question about 2wire (1000-400108-001) Router

After reseting my 2wire to the factory default and having my att.techsupport person set it back up, my computer still can't seem to connect to it wirelessly for more than a few seconds without losing connection. Tech support told me to buy a new router. Is that your advice as well?

The problem persisted on three computers - one running Windows 7, another running WinXP, and the third running OSX 10.5.6 (I think)

Win 7:

Reset the wireless device to default settings. Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds. That should reset to factory settings. You didn't supply your Model of wireless device. You can google the model for a user manual.

I hard reset my att pantech z990 and it didnt default back to factory settings, It has no settings at all

Default 6 Digit Security code: 123456 or 000000

Type *#06# at the mobile screen to know IMEI no of your mobile.
send the IMEI no to me and i will reply you with unlocking code.

What steps do I take to configure my 2wire 2701 hg-b to connect directly by ethernet cable to my Directv HD DVR and pick up the dsl signal being transmitted by my primary westell router? Both are wireless...

Connect the cable at both ends and do a red button (inside card door) reset of the DVR. To test the connection, do thus: Menu -> .....setup -> system setup -> network setup -> test connection. If it shows not connected then "reset defaults" and run "connect now"
As a basic security feature the ATT DSL 2Wire 2701HG-B router/gateway requires you to enter its pre-assigned WEP key to connect beyond the unit itself and then to the internet. Since the Direct TV DVR HD24D only does a basic connection without having a place to enter the 2701HG-B WEP key it never actually reaches the internet.
The 2Wire 2701HG-B has the ability for one attached unit to "pass through" its firewall and internal security settings using a so called "DMZplus" mode. I set the HR24D DVR to such a mode within the 2Wire unit and the DVR connected with the internet flawlessly.

ATT is your high speed internet provider and they supply you with 2wire DSL modem which has alot of power supply adapter going bad (you can Google 2wire AC dapter problem).
You can buy your own DSL modem but the key is the setting it up, it depends on how your ATT DSL system is setup, DHCP, PPOe, etc. What ever you do I hope you do have the user name and password that you may need to setup the new modem.
To explain exactly how here will take many many words and pages to explain, and without knowing your exact setup, it will be real difficult.
ATT does not care if you use your own DSL modem but they will not help you setting it up.
I would suggest you to get someone at school that knows a lot about computer, may be aks your school IT person to see if he/she can help you for free pizza.

This is basically an issue with the settings on wireless. Feature incompatibility is what i ll say. Your 2wire access point will be broadcasting a mixed wireless signal. Open the access point interface on a web browser by typing: http://192.168.1.254
Go to the WIRELESS settings section.
Change the SSID to whatever you want (It should be 1 word with no spaces).
Change the wireless mode to 802.11g only.
Change the wireless channel to 1, 6 or 11 (any of these).
Finally, it would be preferred if you set your wireless security mode or type as "64-bit WEP" and the key1 can be set as your phone no. because it has to be 10 numbers.
Now if your access point is WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup) enabled, you can disable that feature.

Even if these steps do not work, you must take a back-up of the settings and upgrade the firmware version or re-flash the same version of firmware and restore to factory defaults and then later if it cannot be configured back by you, you can simply restore the saved the settings.

For further clarifications, please revert! Good question. Even we technicians encounter it.

The wireless password is not on the adapter. You will need to check the wireless settings of the router. You must have a wireless router.
Is there any computer online using the router.
If not then you will need to connect the computer to the router.
If yes then you can open the router set up page on that computer.
router set up page is the page where you can check all the router settings.

Connected but no internet

del everything in %temp%, if you are using internet explorer, reset it back to factory by..in IE7 select,tools,internet options,go to advanced tab and click reset. Be advised, Vista is notoriously difficult when it comes to internet connection problems especially wireless.

Hi there... I dont get wat you mean by PIN... Is it WEP key your refering too? Well as you said it is supposedly the 10 digits on the modem.. If your unable to connect, then the possibilities are that the modems default wep key has been changed. To reset this key you will have to access the gateway thru

192.168.1.254 or gateway.2wire.net - click on wireless settings and from there scroll down and you will be able to see the buttons where it is marked as use default encryption key or use custom key passphrase. Click on use default encrpytion key , scroll down and click save settings. Now note at this point of time when you click save , whichever wireless devices which were or could connect to the modem when it was in " use custom key passphrase" cant be connected anymore. All the devices must be reconfigured to the default wep key which can be found on your modem which is a 10 digit n numbers.

2nd choice.
You access the modems gateway page to reset the whole modem to factory default
Go to the http://gateway.2wire.net/mdc and you will be prompted for password. By default its 2wire. Once you have accesses in it, scroll down till you see Troubleshooting - then you can see resets. click on it and at the bottom you will see a radio button RESET - Resets your 2wire gateway to factory default. CLick on the reset, your modems power light will change to orange led after 3 secs from your click. and the orange led will be there for ard 10-15 secs. And your modem will boot back. And now its factory default. You need to do the necessary configurations depending on your ISP.

3rd choice

Reset button behind modem
Click the red reset button behind the modem and hold for 15 secs, the modem will be restored to factory default.

Need password for 2wire network

The best solution is to reset the router. The easiest way to do this is to find the reset button, usually on the back of the router there is a pin hole button. Use a pin or pencil to push the button.

Be warned, any special settings will be lost, but most installations of home network routers such as the 2Wire Router/Gateway is the default settings. If you have other than the default settings, then contact the person/organization that set up the 2Wire for you, such as your ISP/Internet provider.

Lost Ethernet and Wireless Connections in Modem

I've not used one of these 2wire boxes before, but I believe the default router's address is 192.168.0.1. Try this instead of gateway.2wire.net to see if you can gain access to the router. This is just the starting point, but see if it works.
