Have you tried looking at the Marantz website for the user manual? Many makers have PDF's of them free to download.
it actually came with a manual which explains only how to enter the code, but not what to do if you don't know the code.
Most frustrating. Really have no idea how to reset it.
Here's a pic of it- http://cgi.ebay.de/Marantz-High-End-HiFi...
Phil
Found another VCR Marantz manual that does explain how to cancel child lock. It might be your model users the same system!
"To cancel Child Lock, press the VCR button, then press
and hold the POWER button on the remote control for
more than 10 seconds until the VCR power comes on.
“CL” will disappear from the display panel."
Give it a try. There's a service manual but it costs £32! So not worth it.
Thanks a lot for the info.
Have tried this but unfortunately to no avail.
The remote has no VCR button , which may sound strange.
Tried holding down a few different buttons (getting a bit desperate now)
Even Marantz themselves say there's no way to bypass this feature.
This sounds crazy to me.
Do you know of a way to do this, a fuse or the like inside videorecorders?
I'm willing to try anything as it will be going in the bin pretty soon...
Did Marantz tell you the " default standard code" for it? If your asking them, ask if there is anyway to set the factory default? And ask if you can have a copy of the service manual, or see if you can find one cheaper. Perhaps in a local reference library?
But if the person who set the code used one of their own making, you might be stuck. The code will be stored in a chip (IC) that might have a memory retention capacitor keeping it with a voltage to function in power off state, look up MRC on Google image so you know what you are looking for. Removing it and discharging it could clear the chips memory. But it's a long shot!
That's very helpful, I'll have a search online for the whereabouts of the chip.
I have a feeling that the service manual will be extremely rare as I can't find anyhthing regarding the video (apart from the pics on ebay)
Will let you know how it goes...
Manuals In PDF have it, but it works out at £32! So try e-mailing Marantz for it, you might get it cheaper or free from them, if you explain the problem to them.

Hello -
You've accidentally switched the Child Lock feature ON.
To de-activate the Child Lock on most GoVideo DVD/VCR players, press and hold the POWER button on the GoVideo remote control for about 10 seconds. The SAFE message should disappear and you should be able to use the player again.
(To activate the Child Lock again, press and hold the POWER button for about 10 seconds)
I can't be 100% certain this will work for you as you didn't include the model number of your player. If you need further assistance, or you don't have the original GoVideo remote, please reply to me with the model number of your player.
Hope this helps.
Regards,
BElectric
