I have a Harmon Kardon AVR 145 that goes into protect mode and then shuts off when I turn it on. Reseting it did nothing. Capacitors and fuse are fine. What could I do to fix this problem?
The minute I turn it up past a certain point the receiver shuts off. Says to check speaker cable. I've done that and they are all hooked up fine. I just bought a Yamaha receiver

I would try disconnecting the speakers, then turn it on. If protect still shows with no speakers connected, then it needs to go to the repair shop- Might be a blown power transistor.
thank you for the advise. i have the harmon kardon avr 3600 and was worried that i destroyed it. i will take it to a shop and get it fixed since it is a great receiver.
Check all speaker wiring for shorts, if okay! there is a problem in the audio output stage of the unit or the protection circuit is not working properly. I would suggest a pro to evaluate.
This usually happens when a 'Picco' fuse is blown. There are several of them. They are small, skinny fuses that look like resistors. The one you are looking for should be close to the power supply and located on the green circuit board. You must use an ohm meter to figure out which one is burnt out. It takes patients, but that stereo is worth the hassle.
