Posted on Nov 29, 2010

My dell has issues with the graphics display,at times when i switch it on it just shows a blank greyish black screen,at other times when it works normally it will just start having a background like a tv static screen with background having a purplish colourmaking it difficult to read any text on the screen and displays pictures and videos with a purplish smear to everything,it goes from that to normal and bad inthe course of any use. I recently changed the vga card and it was normal for 2 weeks before starting to act up again, please how can i hve a permanent fix to this problem?

You should try the cheapest solution first. Replace the LCD cable. These should be easy to find on ebay and amazon. My guess is there is a short in the cable.

SOURCE: Dell Inspiron 9400 display goes blank after a few minutes

If the issue occurs in the safe mode, then I'm suspecting a failure of the LCD backlight. (It warms up and quits) Also see if video stays on using an external monitor. If it does, then the LCD is most likely failing.

If video goes out on an external monitor as well, then the Video card is failing due to overheating. Make sure all vents are free of dust (Clean with canned compressed air) and the all fans are functional (Run the fan test in diagnostics) If fans check up, then video card is failure point. If fans fail diags, replace affected fan 1st

SOURCE: dell inspiron 1525 notebook will not start windows

Usually this happens when the vista boot loader fails. During boot up, keep tapping F8 and then select Disable Automatic Restart... and get the stop error code which usually starts with 0x

SOURCE: Dell Inspiron E1705 does not show any picture

First of all, check that the laptop is set to output video to the LCD. There should be a function key which will determine whether it is outputting video to the built-in LCD, the external monitor, or both. That should be holding down your "FN" key and hitting "F8." If it is on CRT ONLY, it should switch within 1-2 keypresses.

Secondly, take a good bright flashlight and shine it directly at the LCD panel from about 1-2 inches away. If you can actually see the graphics on the screen faintly in the background, your backlight is not turning on. The backlight is literally a bulb which lights up the screen, and they can burn out. It is repairable, and shouldn't cost more than $150.00 from a reputable repair shop.

Laptop screen goes blank

If the monitor hookup solves the problem it means the inverter board located under the screen is intermittent, or the baclight behind the display may be the issue, and you may have a loose video cord from the screen to the motherboard plugin. But if both screens show the same symptom, it is the video graphics chip built into the motherboard.

I have dell d630 it turn on but not display anything what is the problem

If the unit powers up and it seems to work except for the screen, hook a external monitor to the video output usually on the back, if picture is present! the laptop has issues. But if both screens show the same symptom the problem is in the video graphics card.

My dell optiplex gx 260 has a blank screen when I turn it on. The windows xp professional screen comes up then when it goes to where the desktop should show up all I get is a gray screen

1. From reading your issue it seems the video card is defective.
2. If you have received the Windows XP splash screen and then the monitor displays a gray screen then only two things have happened here your drivers are corrupt for the video card or the video card itself has failed.
3. Suggestion: install a new video card compatible with Windows XP.
4. Most Dell Optiplex desktops have the video graphics card integrated to the the mother board.

Dell M2300 issues: After several times of a freezed screen & rebooted the computer while either on the internet or working with "Autocad Inventor", it's finally gave up on me, on the last...

Isolate where the problem is: it could be the LCD display or the graphics circuit on the main board. Connect the VGA output of the laptop to an external monitor - one that you know is good. From the function keys, activate the VGA output of the laptop - it's suppose to switch between the LCD display or to the external monitor. Switch it to the external monitor. If the external monitor works, then you have a problem with the LCD display of the laptop.

Black/blank lcd screen after 2 seconds

try this - boot into "safe mode" - (this loads just minimal drivers). Reboot and press F8 while it's booting - it will ask if you want to boot into safe mode - say yes - if the screen works with the low resolution inherent drivers, it's probably a driver issue, or if you have a video card, it may not be able to work at the higher resolutions (which could be a card issue)

This should help you narrow down if the screen actually works, or if it's a graphics card and/or driver issue.

If it works - try reloading the driver for your graphics card (if you don't have a graphics card - try reloading both the chipset driver and the video driver from the manufacturer)

let me know if this works...

(I had a Toshiba Tecra laptop that did the exact thing - you could see the Windows boot menu, and once it completed boot up, the screen would go black - if you started it in safe mode (crummy resolution) it worked but of course the graphics are unacceptable at that resolution)

Turns out this is common with those, it was the graphic card built into the motherboard that's shot....
