I Have a problem with a Lexmark X422 MFP, Has Error 944 and wont reset.
Removed CCD ribbon cable, cleaned edge connector and re-connected. Working well so far.
Error 944
If the Lexmark X422 Printer gets an error code 944, it means
that the mirrors need to be cleaned. First, turn off the printer. Then, unplug the printer from the power outlet. Now, remove the document tray from the back of the scanner
bed by gently pushing in the two plastic sides of the document tray inwards towards each other. Now loosen the front panel by using a very small flat head
screw driver to move the clips in the clip holes under the front
panel. This will allow you to lift up
the front of the front control panel. Then, open the document feeder by pressing the gray
button. Then, look for the arrows inside
the document feeder which indicate where to use a screw driver to push the
plastic clips in to remove the side covers of the document panel. Then, remove the two Phillips head screws from each side of
the document feeder. Now, you should be able to pull the front control panel
forward slightly so you can lift it up slightly....exposing the three plastic
clips that hold the back of the front control panel to the scanner bed. Push in the three clips to release the back of the control
panel from the scanner bed. Now, the
front and back of the control panel should be released. Now, there are three medium sized Phillips screws that are
securing the back side of the scanner bed.
The screws are in three deep dark holes (in the plastic frame of the scanner
bed) that are on the top of the back of the scanner bed, where the document
tray was attached. Now, remove the three Phillips screws with a medium sized Phillips screw driver. You need to
stand above the scanner on the and have a head lamp so you can
see the screws in the dark holes so you don't strip the screw heads. Unscrew the three screws and leave them in
their holes. Now, you should be able to carefully lift up the scanner
glass bed with plastic frame and document feeder and rest it against the wall. Now, remove the two black screws from the top of the black
plastic mirror container. Lift the front
of the black plastic mirror container (it should easily pivot up because it is
made to slide on the silver metal scanner rod and move) and disconnect the white
connector that powers the scanner lamps. Now, gently lower the mirror assembly container and remove the black
plastic lid from the mirror container, exposing the mirror and top glass
slide. Clean the mirror and glass slide
with lens cleaner (lens cleaner for camera lenses or for eye glasses will work)
on a soft lint free cotton cloth...like a clean cotton t-shirt. Do not use Isopropyl Alcohol because it will
leave a blurry film on the mirror and lenses. Now, gently raise the mirror container again and clean the
bottom glass lens as well, in the same manner. Now, reattach the white power connector for the scanner
lamps. Now, make sure the white scanner lamp wires are fed into the
mirror container properly so they are not being pinched by the cover and so
they are not blocking the mirror. Screw the two black screws back into the mirror assembly cover to
secure the mirror container. Lower the
mirror container assembly. You can also clean the underside of the glass scanner bed at
this time. Then, reassemble everything by doing everything above in
reverse. Plug in the scanner power plug back into the wall outlet. Turn the power switch on the scanner and let it boot up. You
may need to restart your computer to correct the communications link
from the PC to the printer after performing the printer mirror
maintenance.
