Thank you all for your comments and solutions.
I bought a dedicated battery charger and hey presto - all is well, I have got my music back.
Thanks again everyone
I used to work in a IC design department where we disigned IC's for creative. It is a problemn of the lition ion charging circuit. When voltage drops under 0.9 volt (if I remember clearly) It will not detect
the battery anymore and wil not charge..
So, solution:
1 try to charge the battery manually for a short time, disassemble the vision and connect the battery to up to 3.7 volts. For a while, later your device can charge it further, by itself

I have tried to charge my zen
Same problem here - works fine from conencted mailsn charger - but powers off as soon as disconnected

Same here,
Works when connected to mains. I used to work in a department where the desinged MP3 player processors (also for creative) and think I know what is wrong:
The Charging circuit that is implemented for the lithium ion charging, needs a small voltage from the battery to detect it and start loading. (this is intended as safety, but will render your device unusable if the battery goes completely flat. So i have also have a dead device now.
Solutions:
1 Get and install new replacement battery (instructions can be found online (is simple)
2 Open your device (use same instruction). Connect yout battery to a 3 up to 3.5 volt power supply. Leave this for a short while (charging lithium ion battery's is difficult) This might give the battery enough charge to be detected by the player again.. reassample and recharge as usual.
I will first try the second option, if that won't work, I will hav to buy a new battery.
GL with your dead visions!
