Have completely cleared papaer path, unable to load even single sheet of paper through ADF. Keeps indicating jammed after unusual noise.

Device error An internal error occurred in the device. Press (Select) to resume the job. - Door open The printer door is open. The door must be closed before printing can continue. - Engine comm. error The device experienced an internal communication error. This is a warning message only. Job output might be affected. - Invalid driver You are using the incorrect printer driver. Reselect the printer driver appropriate for your device. - Invalid entry Invalid data or response. Correct the entry. - Jam in Cartridge area A paper jam has occurred in the print path. Open the door and clear the jam. Then press the (Select) button on the control panel - Jam in Output bin A paper jam has occurred in the output area. Clear the jam, and then press the (Select) button on the control panel. - Jam in print paper path. A paper jam has occurred in the print path. Open the door and clear the jam. Then press the (Select) button on the control panel. - Jam in tray 2 A paper jam has occurred in Tray 2. Clear the jam, and then press the (Select) button on the control panel. - Jam in tray 3 A paper jam has occurred in Tray 3. Clear the jam, and then press the (Select) button on the control panel - Load paper The HP Color LaserJet 1600 printer is out of paper. Please load specified paper type and size into the tray indicated. - Manual feed The printer is waiting for paper in the tray indicated Load the paper as indicated. - Memory is low The device memory has been almost completely filled. Allow the device to finish the job, or press (Select) to cancel the job. Break the job into smaller jobs that contain fewer pages. - Misprint The printed pages have been incorrectly placed on the paper. To continue, press the (Select) button on the control panel.

You may have a blocked paper sensor. Check the path the papaer would follow and located the sensors. Check them for dust or torn paper. The machine will not print until the jam error is cleared. If disconnected from power too long jobs in memory may be lost.

Occasionally, media becomes jammed during a print job. An error in the software program and a jam message on the printer control panel display indicate a media jam. To prevent a jam, see the following instructions:

• Only print on media that meets HP specifications.
• Only print on media that is not wrinkled, folded, or damaged.
• Make sure that the printer is clean.
• Make sure that the input trays are loaded properly and are not too full. See the start guide for more information about loading input trays.

When adding new media, always remove all of the media from the input tray and straighten the stack of new media. This helps prevent multiple sheets of media from feeding through the printer at one time, which reduces media jams

Clearing a media jam

CAUTION: Media jams might result in loose toner on the page. Use cold water to wash toner off of clothes, as hot water will permanently set the toner into fabric. To remove toner from hands, wash hands in cold water.
CAUTION: Do not use a sharp object, such as a pencil or scissors, to remove jammed media.
NOTE: When clearing jams, including jams in the output bin, always push the print-cartridge-door release to open the top cover, and remove the print cartridge. Keep the top cover open and the cartridge out until the jam has been cleared. Opening the top cover and removing the print cartridge relieves tension on the printer rollers, which makes removing jammed pages easier.


Push the print-cartridge-door release and open the top cover.

Grasp the handle of the print cartridge and remove it. Set it aside.

CAUTION: To prevent damage to the print cartridge, do not expose it to light any longer than necessary. Place the print cartridge in a paper bag or other opaque container until it can be placed back in the printer.

With both hands, grasp the side of the media that is most visible (this includes the middle), and carefully pull it free from the device.

When the jammed media is removed from this area, replace the print cartridge.

Press the supporting springs, and close the top cover.
Open the media input tray and remove any media from the tray.


Slide the media guides inward as far as they will go. Press and hold down the tabs inside the media input tray, and slide the media input tray out of the printer.

With both hands, grasp the side of the media that is most visible (this includes the middle), and carefully pull it free from the device.
Replace the input tray into the device.

After clearing the media jam, it may be necessary to shut down the printer, and then turn it on again.

NOTE: To add new media, remove all of the media from the input tray, straighten the stack of media after adding the new media, and then place the stack in the tray.
Clearing other media jams
CAUTION: Do not use a sharp object, such as a pencil or scissors, to remove jammed media.
If the media has jammed where it exits the printer, grasp the leading edge of the media and pull the media out through the output bin.

NOTE: If the printer is shut off before clearing the media jam, turn it on again, and then restart the printing or copying job.
Tips to avoid media jams
Make sure the automatic document feeder (ADF) media lever is in the correct position for the media being used. Slide it to the single-sheet setting (to the right) when scanning on thick media. Slide it to the multiple-sheet setting (to the left) when scanning on regular media.
Make sure that the input tray is not overfilled. The input tray capacity varies depending on the type of print media that is used.
Check that the input tray is securely in place.
Do not add print media into the input tray while the printer is printing.
Use only HP-recommended media types.
Do not let print media stack up in the output bin. The print media type and the amount of toner used affect the output bin capacity.
Check the power connection. Make sure that the power cord is firmly connected to both the device and the power supply box. Plug the power cord into a grounded AC power outlet.
Media jams occur in the automatic document feeder (ADF)

Occasionally, media becomes jammed during a copy, scan, or fax job.

A software error message indicates a media jam, and the Doc feeder jam Clear, Reload message appears on the printer control panel display to indicate a jam.

• The ADF input tray is loaded incorrectly or is too full.
• The media does not meet HP specifications.

Automatic document feeder (ADF) media lever If a thick media is being used, slide the media lever to the single-sheet setting (to the right). Load a single sheet of media into the ADF.
When the copying, scanning, or faxing jobs are complete, slide the ADF media lever back to the multiple-sheet setting (to the left).

You can load up to 30 sheets of plain paper in the Artisan 800 ADF. If the ADF doesn't feed the paper, check the following.

1. Make sure that you are loading plain paper only without a holes. 3-hole punched paper is not supported by this printer.

2. Load paper not exceed 30 sheets.

3. Open the ADF and check for any jammed paper or foreign object that is blocking the paper feeding path.

4. Check if the BIG GREEN ADF indicator is lit when you load paper in the ADF.

If the issue persists, your printer will require service. You can contact the Epson for warranty if your printer still under warranty. If your warranty expires, look for an a service center that can repair your printer.

E08 error message which indicates papert jam is caused by lose or mis-alligned input paper tray (automatic document feeder).
Resolve issue by powering off the scanner, opening the paper path section, removing the adf, and then re-seating the adf.

Make sure the paper that is in the drawer matches the orientation and size indicated on thje Op Panel Display, If NOT, MAKE IT MATCH.

Hi, The problem seems to be a piece of debris , paper stuck in the ADF roller assy. You can check this by opening up the adf cover and inspecting the paper path. I have seen where a very small peice can cause paper path problems to where something is blocking the paper> Good Luck!
