It couldn't be easier to update iTunes, just choose "Check for
Updates" under the iTunes menu on a Mac, or from the iTunes Help menu on
a PC. This checks both your iTunes software and your iPod software for
updates. If both are up to date, you'll be told that iTunes is up to
date, if updates for either are available you'll be offered the
appropriate update.
On a Mac you can even use "Software Update..." under the Apple Menu from your desktop.
To check just for iPod software updates, connect your iPod to your
computer, launch iTunes, and choose the iPod in the Source pane. From
the iPod Settings Summary tab that appears, if the Update button is
available-black, not grey-then new iPod software is available. Just
click the Update button and follow the directions.
