I had the same problem today. I ran Windows "Mr Fix it" and that fixed it.

Says something about class installer will not install

What are you installing it on? IF you are putting it on a machine that has operating system like windows 7 or 8, you have the wrong software.

Trying to download a driver for primefilm 1800u

The drivers it needs are in Windows\system32\drivers and include usbscan.sys and 2 others. I discovered that I had to run the device troubleshooter until it came across the single image scanner, I let it install drivers and then it worked with the primefilm software. That took hours, but the solution was to let Windows 7 64 bit do a troubleshoot on the hardware.

I just installed the camera software on a new PC running Windows 7. It seems to have installed properly, but the software does not recognize the camera. I get a "Camer not recognized" error.

http://software.canon-europe.com/products/0010371.asp
get here and download and install all related software with windows7 ..cause in the software you installed the driver is not present..and this is the reason that the camera is not recognized
also ..if you have the driver disk ..and it has the driver for windows 7 (or for vista on 32 at least ..) insert the disk ..and the camera ..and go to control panel and run the add new hardware wizard..and try to let it find the driver automatically from the disk ..
if it do not find the driver .install all related software from the support site I linked you ..cause it is not specified which one contains the driver and which not ..but I assume that the ones that are made for browsing photos .have the driver inside..

I'm install my new set of recovery disk and i have the same error message 1005 or 100a

These are often critical Windows errors caused by a corrupt registry entry. To prevent further corruption to other hardware and applications on your PC, this problem should be fixed immediately. Risks that can result from not repairing your computer include system crashes, blue screens, and hardware failure. this also can also happen when The volume does not contain a recognized file system. Please make sure that all required file system drivers are loaded . ( solution: Check and repair the file system by running CHKDSK. To run CHKDSK click Start click Run type CMD and then click OK. At the command prompt type CHKDSK /F and then press ENTER.

Windows does not recognize camera

Here are the steps to take.

1. Establish whether or not you have a connection between your camera/computer by going to your start button, control panel, system, hardware tab and device manager. The camera must be powered on and in playback mode (should automatically go to playback mode when connected, camera's screen should go black if there is a connection). Make sure you have a fully or nearly fully charged battery in your camera.

2. Once in device manager, look under Imaging Devices. If your camera is properly connected it should show up as Canon Powershot SD800. If it shows a yellow exclamation point, there is a driver issue, and even if it doesn't show a yellow exclamation point, you may want to update your driver anyway by right clicking and having the system search automatically for driver updates. If download of driver begins, great...once finished, restart camera and your problem may be resolved.

3. If there are any other imaging devices, you may have to temporarily disable them to avoid conflicts.

4. If you have any other imaging software running, exit or close the program in your system tray (down by your clock in the right hand corner of your computer's desktop.

5. Try again to connect.

6. If you are on a desktop, try a rear usb port vs. a front port. You can also try a different port on a laptop. After each change, try restarting camera to establish connection.

7. Go to start/My Computer and look for the icon for your camera...you will be able to download images even without Canon software loaded onto computer so this is not a software issue if you have no hardware connection. If you see the icon, right click on it and choose Get or Import pictures. From there the default Microsoft scanner and camera wizard should launch and you will be able to import your images.

8. If still no connection, try going to Start/Run and type in services.msc here you are looking for 4 services to be running. Check under status of each service and make sure it reads that each of these services are started.
  • Canon Camera Access Library 8 (if Canon software loaded)
  • SSDP discovery service
  • Universal Plug and Play Device Host
  • Windows Image Acquisition
Once all of these services are started on your computer, restart camera once again. If any of the last three services are not on your computer or are not started, connecting will be a problem.

If all of these steps fail, try purchasing an SD card reader from your local electronics store for around $12 and download images from there. Canon also offers lifetime technical support for your Powershot, so give them a call if none of these steps work or if you would like someone to walk you through it.

Best of luck to you!
