The password is the encryption key in your
wireless router, without this key the wireless router won't allow the laptop/computer to connect to this wireless router. The WEP, WPA, WPA2 encryption key is in
your router's wireless settings. Log into your router and got to the wireless
settings, you will need to get the SSID and the encryption key. Then go to your computer/laptop's wireless card and configure it with the router's SSID
and encryption key, so it will then connect to the wireless router and the
Internet.
use the same subnet mask
255.255.255.0 - is common class of ip
192.168.0.1 - router
192.168.0.2 - 192.168.0.19 assign for printers and routers
192.168.0.20 - 192.168.0.254 assign to computers
1.Log into router 2. Verify wireless router name( on the computer) >>> ( on/off) 3.Note router name you are connecting to. 4.. Check the laptop do ipconfig /all to see current IP addressees. 5. Set the laptop up in the router by WEP KEY or MAC address. 6.Note router name you are connecting to. 7. Move the laptop about 20ft away and try to log on to the internet. This is for all routers to set up wirelessly.
These wireless dongles can take time to conect after pc starts some times they take up to 3 minutes to configure. What you could try doing is changing the brodcast type on the main modem and reconfiguring the dongle on the other pc to conect might work out faster for conection and better.
See if Belkin has a firewall setting in the routers control panel. You have to log on to the routers address to find out. In order to access a linksys control panel you have to put 192,168.1.1 in to internet explorers address bar. The user name by default is Admin and password is the password. Try doing a google search for the belkin log on address to use.
My name is ArmyMason, I have a suggestion for you. In Internet Explorer click on file and see if Work offline is checked. If it is unchecked it and try again. If this solution doesnt work might I suggest using our premium service or live chat.
As far as I can tell you can only connect to other people's computers via the network router in a wireless application. Even then your brothers computer must be on "share" setting to allow you to do so. Check your airport is working in the network settings function in preferences, if yes, go into you computer on the side bar there will be an icon called "network" click that once and you will see what your airport card is connected to and if your brothers cpu is on that network.
You do need to be within range of a wireless signal.
Have you installed the drivers for the card properly?
Does the wireless card show up under "network adapters" in Device Manager? If not you may have to reinstall the drivers for the card. Also make sure that it is FULLY inserted into the PCMCIA slot for it to be recognized by windows and be in working order.
On Windows XP, the OS will prevent a connection to an unsecured wireless network such as what you have.
You can try: Double click on the red WiFi icon, click on the "Change the order of preferred networks", Click on "Add", type in the Network name (SSID) of your router (you can get this by using the connected PC and log in to the NetGear's Webbased Interface), set Network Authentication to "Open", set Data encryption to "Disabled", OK, reboot your PC.
Alternately, you can set the PC where the Encore ENPWI-G2 card is connected to manual configured settings rather than Auto obtain. Follow what is in the connected PC's settings except that the last number of the IP add be different (ex. connected PC > 192.168.0.100, set the unconnected PC to 192.168.0.101, all the rest subnet, default dns be the same. Of course the 101 must not be in use, if double IP add, change to 102).
In some instances, you may need to use the Encore WiFi configuration utility (normally comes with the drivers in the installer CD) rather than the Windows buil-in WiFi Config utility,
Hope this be of some help/idea. Post back how things turns up or should you need additional information.
