Question about 2wire (1000-400108-001) Router

Cannot get a secure connection with 3800hgv-b 2wire gateway with a 302.11n wireless USB adapter. When it's an unsecure connection I can get connected. Only when there is a secure connection, it won't connect.

The pass key is not the problem. I called my IP and even changed the pass key. I think it has something to do with Windows Vista and the WEP setup. I need step-by-step instructions on how to make my computer OS accept a secured setting before entering the pass key.

The problem is compatiblity of the computer accepting a secured connection.

Used thehttp://www.vista4beginners.com/How-to-se... link but the problem still exists. I think it may have something to do with the wireless configuration utility. When I was on the phone with my IP, they turned off the secured setting and I could get connected so, it's not a router problem. I'm also sure it's not a pass or security key issue.

Here's a link on how to connect your vista to a wireless router. make sure that the authentication is same as the router. If the router uses a WEP or WPA, you should use the same with vista.

have you double check the authentication that you are using? The authentication key should corresponds to your router. if your router is using WEP or WPA. Your computer should be using that one also.

Go to the routers home page and go to wireless security. below is the link on how to setup your vista to connect to router. Take note of the drop down arrow ehere theres is WEP or WPA options.

if you are wanting to run stricktly wireless then no if your router is not wireless ready. If it only has wired connections and not wireless capable you will have to be wired into it using a cable.

If you dont see the picture of your adapter, then click on the legacy link on the adapter page. After you install the software just use the icon on the lower right to connect to your wireless network.

My Linksys network adapter is very slow to connect

Ask them to review you connection speed to make sure your getting the speed you ordered. Linksys is usually pretty good. See if it's faster WITHOUT using the wireless (plug directly into the modem). If it is I can only think of two things... Ether you need to relocate your wireless modem to acheive a stronger signal OR if your signal is strong on your adapters end, you could always upgrade to a different wireless adapter that can handle faster conections.

3800HGV-B and LinkSys Dual-Band Wireless-N USB Network Adapter

Because the linksys is talking about SecureEasySetup which most lynksys routers use. The 2wire 3800HGV-B button is not a SecureEasySetup button.

Can't access 2wire network using netgear adapter

I was also having trouble with my Netgear wireless n USB adapter connecting to my new [email protected] 2WIRE gateway. The problem was that the netgear software wouldn't allow my computer to stay connected to my 2WIRE gateway and the software wouldn't allow Windows when restarting my computer. I have Windows XP and after hours with [email protected] support there was no resolution and they gave me Netgear's suport number to call 1-888-638-4327. After 10 min. the problem was fixed. They had me click start icon at bottom left corner then all programs, then highlight "start up" and if you see anything like netgear adapter or netgear start up wizard right click on it and click delete. That was it! rebooted my computer and it connected automatically!!! I'm not very computer knowledgable but I hope this helped

This document describes the procedure to install driver for the 2Wire Wireless USB Adapter under Microsoft Windows, and to run a wireless configuration program to configure your 2Wire Wireless USB Adapter to work with a 2Wire HomePortal or OfficePortal wireless gateway. These drivers work under Microsoft Windows 98SE, ME, 2000, and XP.

STEP 1 - Driver Installation
============================
1. Make sure your 2Wire Wireless USB Adapter has not been connected to your computer USB port.
2. Double-click on the file to run WinZip Self-Extractor. The driver installation files will be placed in your hard disk in the C:\TWWUSB_TEMP directory
3. Connect your 2Wire Wireless USB Adapter to an available USB port in your computer. Windows Found New Hardware Wizard will startup.
4. Select the option to search for driver in specific location. Specify C:\TWWGUSB_TEMP as the location of driver.
5. Follow on-screen instruction to finish driver installation.

STEP 2 - Wireless Configuration

2wire 1701 HG Gateway wireless not working

Hi,

There could be a lot of possibilities why you lost your connections at the same time. Could be windows update or changes had been made in your 2wire 2701 HG.Its impossible to say that your wireless adapters turned bad all at the same time.As what you observed , wireless light is off meaning your 2wire doesnt detect any wireless connection. You can try reconnecting them 1 at a time by going to your wireless connection tool or network connections.

If that didnt help, you can use your PC w/c is connected using the USB connection. Using this step, you 'l have a chance to edit and view your wireless network. For you to access your 2wire you must know what your 2wire address {default gateway}. Using your hardwired pc go to start > run > type in cmd then hit enter > on the Dos command screen type in ipconfig and hit enter> youl see your default gateway . It would look like this 192.168.1.254 for example cos sometimes it would vary depending what ISP you have, Open your fav browser and on your address bar type in your default gateway. That would lead you to your 2wire page, there youl have a chnace to view you home network. Check if your wireless encryption and you network name if everything is still the same. {Best thing is to change your wireless name or SSID. Then try to reconnect on your wireless connection for each computer and make sure you have your wireless encryption.
