Hello dave, the only way you can change default setting on resolution is go to > Nvidia Control Panel > Display > Change resolution and click apply. If this option does not work you can go to start> control panel> uninstall a program and remove your old nvidia driver from you computer and reinstall latest driver again, restart computer. I hope this helps you.

Sony vio vgnsz23gp how to connect to another monito. has stanby only

first ..for to work make sure you have the ge force driver installed for the video card ..and not just the automatically installed one from the windows..
than connect the monitor in the vga out for secondary monitor ..and get to the video card control panel ..in the windows control panel ..and enable the second monitor ..and set it as clone ..or in dual mode..which will not place the icons on it ..but will be an extension ..
This can be set and enabled also if you run the nvidia desktop manager from the control panel ..and set it clone ..if you want the same thing displayed in the same time ..or extended to the second one..(dual ) which will have some options ..
For the dual mode the good thing is that you can run separate applications in monitors..by opening them and drag them to the other monitor ..it will act like and extension of yours..
If you go to desktop properties.by click right on desktop ..and choose properties..than settings ..and in there monitor ..you can actually identify them and drag them to switch places to correspond to the actually position ..and after that the mouse will naturally get from one to the other if you point to ..
The normal behavior will be that once a aplication opened and dragged to the second monitor ..when you make it ful screen should extend only in that one ..but some players will make trouble and only will get to full screen in the primary one ..To avoid that use the latest free BS player ..

LG Monitor Unable to Correctly Detect VGA Input

the problem is not the monitor. To be able to correctly set a dual display mode you need to configure you video card to do so. This is accomplished in your video card's control panel. There are various modes:
Clone: it simply clone the screen you'll have the same output on both monitors.
Extend: this will extend your desktop and make it one big screen.
theres another mode to show video only on one screen while the other display regular desktop activities you'll have to experiment.
the procedures for doing this varies depending on you video card: ati, nvidia, or Intel.

Starlogic 17'' as dual display not clear

Check and see if your NVIDIA drivers are up to date. Then try changing the resolution on your laptop to match the native resolution on the monitor and see if it works. If it does then you will need to look for the option to set custom resolutions on each monitor so that you can have both devices working at diferent resolutions if 1 is wide screen and the other is not.

Let me know if this does not work and you need more help.

Yes. You can set it to dual monitor or to clone mode whereas you will have the same picture on both monitors.

I haven't had to use duals monitors with Linux yet but if this doesn't work let me know and I'll run some tests as I can easily set this up at work (we use the same computers and similar cards).

Dell Inspiron 9300 VGA output to 46" Sony LCD problems

Assuming that you have Audio already functional, the solution is to set your system to "Clone" rather than "Extend" video. Right click on desktop > properties > settings > click on second monitor > uncheck extend monitor box (below). Click ok, press Fn + F8 to Clone.

Foxconn 8400gs 256mb video card

The problem is you may not have the correct hardware for dualview monitors.

You may need to change your display adaptor to one that supports dual view. Here is a link that contains a list of display adaptors that support dualview in Windows XP.
