My psp is having trouble reading UMDs it will either take a while for the disc to just show up on the home menu or it wont show at all, also it will just stop reading the disc or it will make sounds like clicking as if its trying to force it self to read the disc and if the game actually loads doing simple things like saving games take longer than usual

Most likely the laser is weak. It has been awhile since I have changed a laser in a psp. But first off you should clean the laser with a q-tip and isopropyl alcohol and dry it with the other end of the q-tip. It doesn't take much for them to not be able to read a disc. If it still doesn't work you will need to replace the laser if you aren't that great at working on electronics or very small things you need to find someone to do it for you.
I Had the same problem, open the umd door, on the right side of the black circle is a litle switch that is pushed when you insert the umd, mine was stuck, I Hope it fix yours
