I have an old Sony CCD TR 5 video8 camcorder- it records well, plays back a good image in the viewfinder but cannot send a signal to the TV through the original RF connector- I am wondering if I need a new cable or if the problem in internal to the camcorder in the output circuits rather than the RF cable- any thoughts? Also, if it could be the cable where might I look for a replacement? Thanks, TFW

Your camcorder is sending out an analog rf signal - current tv tuners are designed to work with digital signals. You can still feed your set with conventional video and audio outputs. If you want to go the rf route you can use one of those converters that you had to get years ago when the broadcasting system changed over to digital. Feed camcorder rf into it and out put it to your new set on channel three or four.

SOURCE: I have a Sony Video8 Handycam CCD TRV211.

Hi,
If you are asking about CCD-TRV211 camcorder?
CCD-TRV211 is analog Video-8 camcorder so its movie data is not digital and can not be connected directly with computer via USB port.
Best and easiest was is to connect camera with DVD Recorder and burn DVD, this will convert analog movie file into digital data and you can copy it to hard disk of computer.

No display in viewfinder and LCD

i think you are able too see the video in play back mode. so there is no problem in your LCD.
i think the CCD has got damaged in your CAM. that is why you are not able to view anything in shooting mode.
because CCD is the layer which converts the light falling on it to a electrical signal and shows us as a complete image.

Everthing seems to work, except the camera will not record.

Assume you have Sony DCR-HC20 camcorder and it does not show you live view to record, I hope camcorder is playing back old recorded tapes perfectly with good quality picture on its LCD.
If it is true then your camcorder has ccd imager chip failure and ccd imager needs to be replace to get live view in LCD monitor.
Qualified camera tech will replace ccd imager chip.
Thanks.
