My computer hard drive will not turn on it just shows a orange light when i turn on and sounds like a lot of air blowing out what do i do to fix it

take the hard drive to a computer repair shop but from your description , it may be dead
if it is a disc type hard drive , then continually moving it around is not good for the delicate workings
if it is dead , replace it with a solid state hard drive which has no moving parts and is a lot more robust

sometimes the wires inside the cable will be damaged due to bending or stretching or placing heavy equipment upon the cable

just replace the cable of the hard disk, when you plugged the external disk drive you got that windows could recognize the USB device change the cable everything should work fine again,

check the USB leads that attach to the motherboard usually red-white-green-black make sure they are securely seated and have no dust build up on them dust will cause static and a lot of unforeseen problems

if this fails to fix the problem
you might have to install a usb 2 or 3 card they are cheap and easy to install you can buy these on Ebay very cheap

What, orange light, when you ask a question tell me all the details, what motherboard? are you talking about a motherboard or computer or laptop? There's lots of lights on a motherboard you see, so saying light on the motherboard could mean anything. does the computer post. Does it get into the bios. If it gets into the bios but won't get into windows your hard drive may be broken or unplugged. Are you sure the monitor is on and connected, have you tried turning it off and on again, if you can get into bios, go and see if your hard drive is listed under sata or pata devices, if not check your connections then maybe replace your hard drive or call your computer manufacturer.

Fist clean your computer of dust using a fine air blower from a compressor specifically around your central processing unit making sure there is no moisture in the air line

as dust will cause a lot of static which will make a computer overheat and cause lots of problems

then test your power supply unit PSU

reple all the leads that attach to your hard drive including electrical extensions + IDE,SATA and the ones that attach from your motherboard to hard drive one bad lead will cause a computer to shut down

make sure all leads that are attached to your drives dvd\cd 3 1/2 inch floppy have secure connections and are not faulty or just replace them they are probably old and faulty ?

then click start?run type?cmd then type?chkdsk/f which will automatically fix any corrupt files on your hard drive then defragment your hard drive

Orange light and clicking noise sounds like the hard drive has failed.
The enclosure should still be good so if you can open it and replace the hard driver you will be back in business.

did you try another computer?
does the connector feel loose?

Try taking the battery out and use only the AC. If everything turned out fine, it could be a problem on the battery or on the port.
