I believe you are referring to oiling the blades unless you are talking about when you take it apart fully and put it back together. For general usage and maintenance:

Oiling of the blades should be carried out at regular intervals during the clipping application. Apply a small quantity of oil on the ends of the blades whilst the trimmer is running. Only use clipper oil or light machine oil of good quality.

Where does oil go for maintenance on clipper set

You'll want to apply some of the oil on the outside of the blades and if possible - detach (the way you would when you clean your clippers) and put a few drops of oil where the spinning rotor from the rotor goes into the bottom piece with the blades of your clippers. When you run out of what they give you - Try INOX - it's a completely non-toxic machine grade oil. Available through Ace Hardware or you can google the product name: MX3. INOX - MX3. Ask for it in the 60ml needle bottle. Hope this helped.

Why You Shouldn't Swap Small Clipper Blades Between Dog Clippers

Why You Shouldn't Swap Small Clipper Blades Between Dog Clippers

Although dog clippers manufacturers claim that their clipper blades are universal (fit other dog clippers), they work best on the dog clippers they were designed for.

The socket (clipper blade), the hinge assembly and blade drive assembly (dog clippers) vary from manufacturer to manufacturer. If you are using different brands of clipper blades on different brands of dog clippers, there will not be a perfect fit.

HINGE ASSEMBLY

The hinge assembly secures the clipper blade (via the blade socket) to the dog clippers.

If the hinge assembly is not regularly replaced, your clipper blades will start to rattle on your dog clippers. The ears on the clipper blade socket are constantly rubbing against the metal hinge assembly, which consequently causes wear on both the socket and hinge assembly. You must ensure that there is a snug fit between the clipper blade socket and the hinge assembly or the blade will eventually rattle.

On average, if a groomer is clipping 8 dogs a day, the hinge assembly will probably need replacing every 12 weeks.

When replacing the hinge assembly, make sure that the screws are secure because if they are too loose the clipper blade will not cut correctly or not at all.

It is not advisable to try to adjust the ears on the socket to enable the clipper blade to fit the hinge assembly, because you will risk breakage which will render the blade redundant until you get the socket replaced by a sharpening professional. The best person to adjust clipper blade sockets is an experienced clipper blade sharpener because he has the relevant tools and should the socket snap, he has spares.

BLADE DRIVE ASSEMBLY / BLADE LEVER

The plastic lever on the blade drive assembly locks into the cutting blade and drives it backwards and forwards.

Problems occur because the black plastic lever is constantly rubbing against the metal cutting blade; so consequently, the plastic will gradually wear away. Once the lever is worn, the cutting blade won't be driven side to side as much as it should.

If the blade drive assembly is not regularly replaced, the clipper blade will leave tram lines in the coat, pull at the hair, the dog clippers will sound noisier and the clipper blade will eventually, stop cutting.

On average, if a groomer is clipping 8 dogs a day, the blade drive assembly will probably need replacing every 6 - 8 weeks.

If your blade drive assembly is worn, your newly sharpened blades will not cut because the cutter blade is not being pushed along the whole width of the clipper blade (it is more noticeable on blades where the teeth are further apart - 3,4 5 & 7). If this is the case, we would strongly recommend that you replace your blade drive assembly.

I purchased a pair of Forfex Magnetic Motor Clippers (FX684XW), sku #763358 and a mini-trimmer clipper (FX785NW) had them for about 3 months. I have had nothing but problems with them. They have pulled...

Have you tried removing the 2 screws holding the comb plate down against the moving blade?

Often cut hair residue will build up under the comb plate to the point where the blade does not cut properly and even seizes against this plate.

Just remove the screws, the comb plate and the cutting blade, clean everything thoroughly with some rubbing alcohol. Make sure to scoop / vacuum out any hair that hair that has fallen into the clipper body through the hole under the blade.

Once the parts are cleaned, reassemble the unit and apply a liberal coat of light mineral oil (available at any drug store) to the blade and to the underside of the comb plate. Don't be stingy, you can always wipe off the excess later before using it.

Now screw down the the comb plate onto the blade and body and tighten the screws just enough that it holds the plate securely but doesn't bind the blades in place.

Turn on the clippers and check that they reciprocate properly. Turn off clippers and adjust the tightness of the screws as required. If the clippers don't start when you switch them on then you probably have the screws too tight.
Now turn on the clippers and hold them blade end down over the sink and pour some mineral oil (at least a spoonful or two) directly on the blade / plate interface so the oil washes over and under the moving blade and in between the blade and the plate. Do this while the clippers are running, there will be a little spatter but that's why you are doing it over the sink.

You can do this oil wash every few haircuts cuts if you like, it's just an easy way to wash out the tiny hair particles and keep the blade well lubricated at the same time. Just wipe off the excess with a paper towel and its good to go. Hope this works for you and helps out a bit.

I lost my instruction manual. How do you oil the Wahl beard and mustache trimmer model 99180? Thanks, DJ.

Hello,

Oiling the trimmer is very simple. It is only necessary to apply oil to the blades. Simply apply one or two drops of oil directly to the blades while running. This should be done before each use.
You should have gotten a bottle of the blade oil with your clipper. If you have also lost this, you can buy a bottle of Wahl clipper oil from shaveroutlet.com. see link below
