A quick fix for most communication errors can be achieved by resetting the printer and/or rebooting the PC. Simply disconnect the printer from your computer (if USB connected) > reboot your pc > unplug and re-plug the printer into the power source to reset it. When the printer turns on, reconnect it to your computer. Then try to scan again once the computer fully recognizes the USB connection (if USB connected). If printer is connected wireless, wait until the WiFi light on the printer turns on solid green before trying to scan a document.

Unpack the archive, open the "Applications" folder, and double-click Setup. This will install the application - it can take a bit.
Once the application is installed, turn the printer on and try a test scan. If it works, you're good and can quit reading.
If you get an error when running a test scan, don't panic. Reinstall the regular printer driver, using the "Update Driver" option that appears.
Restart your computer.
Do a new test scan. This should bring up the All In One Center's loading screen, which will start searching for programs (this can reallllly take a while). When it's done, everything will be working beautifully again!
