My GE refrigerator periodically leaks water from the freezer door. It is now glowing red in the bottom of the freezer. Is there a drain that I need to clear? We unplugged the frig and put the food in the garage frig. What should I do?

There is a leak that periodically happen in the lower left hand corner of the freezer. about every two days. what does this and how do I fix it?

The defrost drain is frozen shut.
Turn off the refrigerator.
Remove the lower freezer bins to access the drain opening.
It is on the back wall of the freezer about 8 inches up from the bottom.
Chip out visible ice.
Use a hair dryer to melt the ice in the drain hole.

I have a ge side by side model tfx24s the freeze is leaking and i removed the lower tray and seen a coil get glowing red is that common

Yes, the glowing red would be the defrost heater doing it's job. (it usually is on for maybe 20 minutes once or twice a day to defrost the coils) There is a drain hole, about the size of a quarter at the center, just below the defrost heater which can block up, causing the defrost water to flow out onto the freezer floor and eventually out the freezer door. Use a turkey baster with hot (not boiling) water to flush the drain open. If you can't reach the drain, try a section of tubing pushed onto the end of the turkey baster to add a flexible extention to your reach. The defrost water normally drains into a pan under the refrigerator where it will evaporate.

Freezer door leaking alot of water on floor no ice on door

This really sounds like a plugged drain. When the unit goes into defrost the water should run down the drain into the drain pan...when the drain is plugged it will run over and down to the bottom of the freezer thus leaking out the bottom of the door and onto the floor. You will need to take everything out of the freezer and remove the screws that hold the back panel on break out the ice at the bottom and use hot water to pour down the drain to clear it.....also if you have a small hose to shove down the drain that will help out alot.

Water comes out freezer door

Defrost that drain with a hair dryer and remove the debris . That should solve the problem . The red you see ( this is normal ) , is the defrost heater , thawing out the frost on the coils . The defrost water HAS to go out the drain or it will freeze the opening and the defrost water will flow out thru the bottom of the freezer door .

10 yr old GE side by side: freezer is leaking

Your drain is frozen up and so every time unit goes into defrost the water refreezes in the freezer's bottom. You either have to shut fridge off completely and let it dethaw or use hot water and an ice pick to hurry up the process. The drain is located in the very back of freezer. You will have to pull out the bottom drawer to see it. Good luck

Leaking Freezer (top) on a GE TBX10 refrigerator

Your refrigerator is frosting up and your drain is freezing over. You will most likely need to defrost the coils in the freezer and the drain. Check the heater and defrost thermostat for continuity and replace if bad. If heater and defrost thermostat are both good you may need a defrost timer or control board.
Another item to consider is a defrost drain probe. This item attached to your heater and goes into the drain to keep it from freezing over. Good luck to you and I hope this helps you.
